November 23, 201015 yr I know I should know this by now. But for every adjustment I have ever made to the fsx.CFG, I have completely shut down the sim and started everything over again. Is that required ... meaning ... can some adjusmtments [and if so ... WHICH ones?] be done after closing a flight without shutting every thing down. I have an older E6700 machine and it takes me about 2 minutes to load the sim and about 4 minutes to load the first flight. I just have never read nor asked if every adjustment to the CFG has to be when the sim is off to put that setting into effect. Thanks, Steve
November 24, 201015 yr Changes in the FSX.CFG file become only active when starting the FSX next time. Best regards from RelaxX
November 24, 201015 yr Any change you make to the "Settings ->Display, Sound, Controls", etc.,, done while inside the sim are automatically saved to the fsx.cfg, Steve. When you exit the sim these last changes will be used to re-create a new fsx.cfg that will be read on the next startup. Most of the settings in the fsx.cfg are changeable within the sim, and I can only see the [DynamicHeadMovement] section, most of [Main] and a small number of other parameters that need to be changed outside the sim, with the sim not running. Most of Bojote's tweaks are actual additions to the cfg, and so cannot be done while the sim is running. :( i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
November 24, 201015 yr Author Most of Bojote's tweaks are actual additions to the cfg, and so cannot be done while the sim is running. :(This helps answer my question. Things like the FiberFrameFraction ... TextureLoad ... BufferPools adjustment ... are things that need to be done when the whole sim is shut down. What I was unclear on was whether these adjustments are applied when a new flight is loading, or only when the whole sim opens up. I think the answer must be ... the whole sim needs to be closed before making adjustments to the cfg that are not made internally, such is under graphic settings, etc. I just didn't know if such cfg changes were applied when a new flight was loaded. ... but evidently not. Thank you.
November 24, 201015 yr The "SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=" line can be adjusted mid flight; open up the fsx.cfg increment the number and save and then click "OK" or "Cancel" on an FSX system menu to start the recompile.
