SquawkBox

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,Well, I've just about had it with Squawkbox, I'm tired of the dreaded ERROR 11 every time I use this program. Is there another program that can be used in place of this?. Thanks

Hi there, I'v had those Error 11 errors and I've found that if I try to start SB with a cold and dark cockpit I would get the an Error 11. If you are starting cold and dark and get error 11's try turning your avionics on first then start SB, see if that works. Hope that helps.

Hi Mike... to answer the 'what alternatives' bit of your question... I fly with a gliding club on VATSIM and we've had a good look at this issue.Ignoring Gamespy...If you fly on VATSIM, you can use either Squawkbox or FSCopilot/FSInn. As I understand it, neither Squawkbox or FSInn is now under active development and support comes from within the user communities. I have tried both with Win 7/32 and FSX/Acceleration.Despite following the installation instructions I couldn't get FSInn to work, and in my opinion Squawkbox is the more simple and reliable, especially if you fly for a virtual airline and like to see other 'players' in the correct aircraft and liveries. The IVAO use their own client-server utility which is fine for flying on IVAO's network, which I found simple and reliable to use. Then there's FSHost which is simple and effective for individually hosted, small groups who want to fly together without formal ATC, but sessions can be broken if a 'player' joins with incorrect port-forwarding at his end. Then there's the new and very exciting developments at FSOpen:http://www.fsopen.co.uk/... where they seem to know exactly what's wanted for IFR/VFR and are providing an excellent multiplayer environment with ATC, training and fun events with several hundered members already signed up. That uses TCP/IP rather than a client/server utility. If you are a dedicated IFR/VFR flyer wanting 'hard-core' formal ATC interaction, VATSIM with Squawkbox is the way to go, but watch FSOpen, because I think they have started something big, and 't's already proving very popular.Phil

For VATSIM FSInn is superior in every single way, except that you need a separate weather engine. There's a bug that causes the temperatures to soar at altitude with FSX and FSInn. Other than that its awesome. Its really easy to install imo, unless youre totally useless with computers, but looking at your sig, I dont think that is the case. You can get proper liveries for traffic aircraft as well with FSInn, infact, you can use any model and livery you like for traffic.

Hi Everyone,Thanks for the reply's. I just cannot figure this out, it makes no sense to me. I've long since tried starting/joining VATSIM via Squawkbox after powering up the avionics. I went so far as to wait until pushback/startup was complete before joining VATSIM via Squawkbox, yet the same problem persists, ("ERROR 11") followed by Squawkbox shutdown. It's hit or miss at best, missing about 80% of the time. The only reason I use VATSIM/Squawkbox is because it's required by the V/A I am currently flying for. If it was not required, I would be using Radar Contact and rid myself of Squawkbox and these annoying ERROR 11 messages.

The infamous Error 11 can be resolved by making sure that your avionics and radios are on before starting Squawkbox.

Hi Marc,Even with the Avionics/Radio powered up prior to starting Squawkbox, I get the Error 11 message.
