December 8, 201015 yr Hey, I flew from YBBN to YSCH via the Larivale 8 departure rwy 01 at YBBN then Direct YSCH (coffs harbour). I was cleared the GPS 03 App via Vectors and was told to descend to 3100'...which I did and I slammed into a mountain will in IMC. I want to buy this procduct but i like to fly in and out of areas of high terrain. Is there anyway to prevent this? Another question, how do I know what FSS to call and what freq when I wanna open/close a flight plan? While enroute there really is no "meanu" per say, but what if I want to deviate from clearence for WX or climb high or descend for turbulence. What if I need to change my destination due to WX, or Fuel.....is there anyway to do that stuff. Radar Contact let's me do all that, but I'm getting tired of RC4 and I love Voice Recogination. Thanks.Ron Hamilton Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom

Thanks.Ron HamiltonHi RonAre you familiar with the '0' menu (zero), which will show you your present options?Regarding high terrain, this is apparently not directly recognisable in FSX when vectoring. What I do in these situations is to take direct control e.g. request an approach type that will give yourself more control. An example would be to request Full ILS instead of the normal ILS with vectoring. For YSCH choose VOR approach, that way you will fly directly to the VOR and then start your procedures without vectoring.
December 8, 201015 yr Regarding high terrain, this is apparently not directly recognisable in FSX when vectoring.Hmm, so it doesn't recognize an MSA for an approach, much less a "general MSA" for an area? What I do in these situations is to take direct control e.g. request an approach type that will give yourself more control. An example would be to request Full ILS instead of the normal ILS with vectoring. Are there example phrases somewhere? In the manual, page 44 under the heading Approach Requests I only saw a couple of "transition airspace" requests. I made the test IFR flight to Eppley and was vectored 15-20 miles out from the STAR passing over Offut to capture the ILS. I tried asking approach for "the full ILS" but that didn't click.Overall I'm impressed with VATC. It may take getting used to how the AI a/c act, but I love it that I can't rely on "auto tune" or requests for phantom ILS approaches into dirt strips.

December 8, 201015 yr Author I just dont understand how to REQUEST something without a meanu. For instance on Approach to Coff's I nerver had the option of selecting a differnt approach soo. There are things I like about VoxAtc but there also thing I love about Radar Contact. I may just stick with Radar Contact, not sure yet, I'll give Vox ATC demo a couple more turns. I may just stick with Radar Contact, not sure yet, I'll give Vox ATC demo a couple more turns. It does seem that you simply ask for it - although I'd really like to see sample/example phrasing rather than depending on guesswork.I just made an IFR flight from KSJC to KMFR and at the end Approach Control was preparing to give me vectors to runway 32 - it was clear and calm enough to take the visual, but I called out, "Cascade Approach, Acme 1400 requests the full ILS one four approach."I was given the approach along with an instruction to "report SAMIE" (the IAF). I giddily acked the procedure, and then repeated the green text (without thinking too much) "report samie." Then Approach Control called "report AMASE" the next fix on the procedure. I caught on, and held my tongue until I had captured g/s and was passing AMASE. I landed, was told to turn right, and got green lights guiding me to my parking spot. Sweet!I still need to get the hang of how to properly launch VoxATC to recognize my IFR flight plan. It seems I have to follow these steps:1. Run FSX, pick a/c, start location, and time.2. Use my EFB to load the flight plan into FSX/GPS. (Or I could use the FSX flight planner to load a plan from disk.)3. Save my flight in FSX (with the ";" key). (I give it a garbage name "111" or something.)4. Pull up the VoxATC panel/menu. Click "Enable."VoxATC then goes through the test / initialize / spawn AI routine and the menu guides me to tune ATIS.I generally don't manually save my flights, so I'm prone to forget step 3 and I'm not guided to tune ATIS, but I get an option of Local Flight, Pattern, and Radio Check I believe. At that point, I disable VoxATC and go back to step 3, and it's good.Things I don't like or just haven't gotten used to yet:Center wanted to take me down off the airway nearly 2000ft below MSA. I responded that I was descending to 8800 and they didn't complain. I tried calling "Oakland Center, Acme 1400, altimeter check" but got no response. Twice during the flight - at 30 minute intervals - Center told me there was traffic ahead and vectored me 10 miles east, and then back west, and then told me to resume my route. TCAS showed nothing ahead of me for 40 miles. I recalled an option that I ticked for "Enroute Traffic Instructions" so I've unticked it in the hopes to never have that happen again. If it does, I'll politely tell Center that I'm flying with crash detection off, and not to worry about a thing... :( The voices are quiet. I installed a few of the VoxPop voices and have turned their volumes up but they're difficult to make out at times. Mystery planes at the airports. I use MyTrafficX and I've gotten used to certain carriers at certain locations - or at least at certain airports. I may try adding in 3-5% of commercial MTX traffic to see what might happen. (At best I suspect chaos on the taxiways and runways....) Still, VoxATC is looking to be a keeper but I'll finish the dance with the demo.Regards,

Do you send the voices through your speakers along with engine sounds or through a headset?VoxATC fully controls AI traffic. This means that you will see airlines that are typical for your present airport (taken from My Traffic), BUT they do not follow any MYT schedules. I can not recommend adding FSX AI traffic or for that matter, any other AI traffic, as they will not be controlled by VoxATC.
December 9, 201015 yr It's essential that you always start VoxATC with a saved flight containing the correct flight plan.Understood. I've a sticky on my keyboard to try the "start free flight then faux save" first thing next time though.I don't think 'Altimeter check' is among the recognized commands. That's ok - Anna, my trusty MCE FO has psychic ATIS-like powers. :( Are the Voxpop voices also low when you test them in the setup screen? Do you send the voices through your speakers along with engine sounds or through a headset?Got it thanks - they still seemed low in the setup, but it was the master volume for the device that was keeping them low.VoxATC fully controls AI traffic. I can not recommend adding FSX AI traffic or for that matter, any other AI traffic, as they will not be controlled by VoxATC.Fair enough. I just did a circuit at Barajas where I know is filled with Iberia and Air Nostrum liners... and true enough there were an overwhelming number of them still present. Parked differently than what I'm accustomed to, but I can deal with that.Oh one other thing... the easy-to-accidently-click-without-a-confirmation green Disable button on the menu. I smell trouble coming from that corner one day.... Thanks for the pointers!
December 9, 201015 yr Oh one other thing... the easy-to-accidently-click-without-a-confirmation green Disable button on the menu. I smell trouble coming from that corner one day.... Thanks for the pointers! In all the years I have used VoxATC this have never happened, but who knows :( I always click the VoxATC window off the screen when not using it (keyed to my yoke).
December 16, 201015 yr Are you familiar with the '0' menu (zero), which will show you your present options? It took me until today to find out that one merely presses '0' - even without prompted to - to pull up an options menu during various phases.I'm settling in more comfortably with 6.04.In all the years I have used VoxATC this have never happened, but who knows :( I always click the VoxATC window off the screen when not using it (keyed to my yoke). My day job pays me to look for problems, so I tend to see them everywhere. :wink:My left "trigger" button is PTT, my right is show/hide.It seems that I have to go to the FSX View menu to open the panel initially though - the key / button mapping doesn't seem to work until I active VA. Is this normal, or am I missing something else?Regards,
December 16, 201015 yr Author SO your saying that during ANY phase of fly I can press "0" and my options will come up? Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
December 17, 201015 yr SO your saying that during ANY phase of fly I can press "0" and my options will come up?I've seen many phases where pressing "0" will pop up a list of things to do. Pre- and during-taxi you can request taxi to a different runway, request to cross a runway, etc. Enroute you can choose to declare an emergency, request higher/lower, request to start descent, wx diversion. Under IFR, during approach it seems you can request instrument or visual approaches (I believe the instrument approaches are taken fron Navigraph data, but I haven't checked too closely.) I'm not sure yet of what conditions need to be satisfied for each phase / case. Pressing "0" certainly won't hurt, no matter where you find yourself. At worst, you may get an operator. (j/k)Regards,
