Captain sim 737-200 Base pack has been released
I won't say that a lack of external control for the Hdg Bug Setter needs a fix, but with my hands and fingers subject to Repetitive Stress Injury, I don't use aircraft that don't have external controller support.I like what I see with the CS 732s but I can't use aircraft that require lots of precise mouse clicking.

GSX or the... Erm, other one
John,I've never had a "parking spot size problem" with GSX. I make a dispatch release before each flight and I know which spots my aircraft can fit into according to the BGL data. (And I generally don't fly heavies so I have more options than other users.) And GSX always lets me have the spots I opt for. But I have read where others describe arrving at a spot with clearly enough room, but because of some design reason - maybe the developer builds for FS9 and ports to FSX or maybe they use Andy's tiny-parking-radius trick to always have a space free, or whatever - GSX plays by the rules and says, "you can't go there."I've made a few GSX parking files for some of my airports that have "static" jetways, ill-defined pushbacks, and buildings placed too close to the park spot. So I'm glad FSDT has given us the chance to define elements of "our" parking for GSX, because GSX is "our" ground services... not services for AI. AI can follow the BGL-written rules, but our eyes allow us to (literally, duh) see things differently. You know, I've never gotten a good parking grade from GSX either - and I know I've parked dead-center of the circle well within a degree of the heading. Oh well, more practice needed. :(

GSX or the... Erm, other one
John,My line of thinking attempted to parallel what I took to be FSDT's intent to include the ability to have its own data for pushback direction and to manage the placement of the marshaller and vehicles around the aircraft. Perhaps I came to my conclusion in haste and did not consider all aspects of the situation as you suggest.Following what I believe to be your line of reasoning, certainly users could move scenery objects - buildings and jetways - to give vehicles the correct amount of room that a scenery-defined parking space would call for (etc.) without recourse to the GSX parking editor. I'll concur that's undeniably correct. Then again I had also thought that sharing a user-generated text file that would accommodate multiple aspects of GSX's "parking spot" structure with - for instance a commercial airport scenery - should be far less problematic than sharing an actual user-modified commercial scenery file itself. Maybe not though?

GSX or the... Erm, other one
Thanks to you both Howard and Andy for the clarifications!Perhaps FSDT will consider adding a "GSX Parking Radius" parameter to a future update so this issue can be managed without having to edit an AFCAD.
-
GSX or the... Erm, other one
Isn't there an option in the GSX parking editor to set a radius? Or am I thinking of a setting that placed the trucks a distance from the aircraft? If it's the latter, then what if GSX modified their parking editor so users could specify a GSX-effective parking radius to avoid having to edit the AFCADs (possibly editing commercial AFCADs)?

The Christmas Sales are here - Looking for a helicopter this year.
Sounds like me a year ago. :( Then I picked up their MD902 - the speed and range sold me.I can't say I'm a great helicopter pilot a year onward, but it's a very nice machine and I can get to where I want to go without injuring the air too much.Plus its nice for exploring a well done scenery area - Bornholm Island, pretty much any interesting ORBX area, etc.Yes I did spend some time one day hovering around KCVG, playing "WKRP traffic reporter."

Multi Crew Experience updated w/voices & works with 737ngx
Here's a new wrinkle in the latest version:Tell your MCE FO what your "Missed Approach Altitude" (or "Go-Around Altitude") is during the flight, then shortly before you hit your minimums the FO will annouce she's dialing in that altitude setting. Nice!

Countries File
You can run Pete Dowson's MakeRwys utilty (under Useful Additional Files) and it will output several files... the runways.txt and the runways.xml files (they're both pretty big) will contain this data.Examples... <ICAO id="00AL"><ICAOName>Epps Airpark</ICAOName><Country>United States</Country><State>Alabama</State><City>Harvest</City><Longitude>-86.770279</Longitude><Latitude>34.864811</Latitude><Altitude>820</Altitude><MagVar>0.000</MagVar><Runway id="01"><Len>2300</Len><Hdg>10.000</Hdg><Def>Grass</Def><ILSFreq></ILSFreq><ILSHdg></ILSHdg><Lat>34.861698</Lat><Lon>-86.770950</Lon></Runway><Runway id="19"><Len>2300</Len><Hdg>190.000</Hdg><Def>Grass</Def><ILSFreq></ILSFreq><ILSHdg></ILSHdg><Lat>34.867908</Lat><Lon>-86.769608</Lon></Runway></ICAO> Airport 00AL :N34:51:53.2932 W086:46:12.9985 820ft Country Name="United States" State Name="Alabama" City Name="Harvest" Airport Name="Epps Airpark" in file: Scenery\0302\scenery\APX24190.bgl Runway 1 /19 centre: N34:51:53.2932 W086:46:12.9985 820ft Start 1 : N34:51:42.4734 W086:46:15.3193 820ft Hdg: 10.0T, Length 2300ft Computed start 1 : Lat 34.861698 Long -86.770947 Start 19 : N34:52:04.1129 W086:46:10.6778 820ft Hdg: 190.0T, Length 2300ft Computed start 19 : Lat 34.867908 Long -86.769611 Hdg: 10.000 true (MagVar 0.000), Grass, 2300 x 200 ft *** Runway *** 00AL0010 Lat 34.861698 Long -86.770950 Alt 820 Hdg 10 Len 2300 Wid 200 *** Runway *** 00AL0190 Lat 34.867908 Long -86.769608 Alt 820 Hdg 190 Len 2300 Wid 200 FSM A/P 00AL, lat=34.864811, long=-86.770279, alt=820

In flight Ambiance
There's a new choice in the MCE menu - Recorded voices vs TTS voices.MCE is such a "Swiss knife" that the recorded voice packs appear huge... thousands of things to be said.I may still keep my IVONA Amy as my FO... personal preference of course. Regards,

In flight Ambiance
Hi,There's also Multi Crew Experience - it's a voice controlled FO / ground mechanic (pushback and fuel) / purser. The FO can control many systems of default and some 'complex' aircraft - CS 757-767, LDS 767, iFly and PMDG 737NGXes, MD11, 747, 4100. (Buy one, control them all!)If you use TTS voices, you can use their VoxScript feature and script out "procedures" and have the FO acknowledge. Here's a link to an Avsim review from 2009, but they've done major (free) updates since, and they do offer a free time-limited demo. (A new update was just announced today I see.)

'Freemium' 757
Well I didn't have a 757 of any sorts, and I had never bought an F-Lite aircraft so I was glad to be able to give this a look. The first thing that struck me was despite some very nice engine sounds, the cockpit suffered from a lack of switch / gong noises. Even adding a...[NO_SMOKING_ALERT]filename=CabinAlert... to the sound.cfg file didn't change anything.I then started a LINDA-assisted peek at the switches and gizmos to see what was happening. There are a lot of values being generated but the system modelling doesn't take advantage of them all. For instance I see that I need to have the center pumps on to start the engines, but I can start the APU w/o the "APU FUEL VALVE" being open. Now I take it that this is a "lite system" and I'm not looking down at it for that. But if I would pay 1.99USD for a livery, I would certainly pay a few bucks for a more in-depth system simulation.I then performed an ISG-otomy, adding the Boeing gauge set and the Smiths FMC so I could try my EFB routes. Hee hee - works. Then I replaced the JF FMC in the v/c with the ISG. The aircraft's 3D model and v/c disappeared!I tried a reload, thinking I had done something silly in my panel editing, but no go. Then I played a hunch and added the JF FMC back to the v/c at the old 1,1,1,1 position. After a reload, all was back to normal - the ISG FMC sits in the place I want it to (with a slight tint difference from the adajacent panels, but nothing objectional) and all looks right.Frame rates are very high and my overall impression is positive, so my next step is to take a flight and see how it handles. I'll honor the free livery and likely load up for a quick EGSS - EGCC flight after a GMT daybreak.

FS Captain 1.3 public beta
FS Captain is holding a public beta test that's open to current and prospective customers. If you're already a Captain and haven't been by the support forum in the past few days, go there. If you don't know what FS Captain is, it's an airline pilot career simulator - No Finance, Just Fly. You can install the current full version in its unlimited PNW-area trial and just add the beta fixpack.Version 1.3 fixes a few bugs and offers more options for some existing features. Now you can let your dispatcher know that you've been given ATC clearance to exceed 250kts below 10000ft if you really need to make it ontime. Or if you're watching the clock eager to make your Gate Time of Departure and you're a PAX or two short of what you're told to expect on your loadsheet, you can signal Dispatch that you're leaving the gate minus a few souls. The ACARS is now compatible with several more complex aircraft - able to read more system values from CaptainSim, Leonardo / Maddog, iFly, PMDG, and SkySimulations models. (With more to come soon.)The newest FS Captain feature is a weather hazard package that simulates the effects of flying in heavy precipitation in turbojets, neglecting to have engine anti-ice on in icing conditions (both can cause engine flameouts), severe turbulence in thunderstorms, and my new favorite... reduced braking on rain / snow contaminated runways and taxiways. This morning I landed a 738 at DEN in heavy snow. Runway braking was reported poor on the ACARS, and my FO cautioned me to review stopping distances and keep an eye on the surface winds. I decided to just land casually - moderate flaps, autobrake one, spoilers armed, dead-on Vapr. (I did leave the engine anti-ice on after having lost an engine on approach just a few days earlier without anti-ice.) We hit the TDZ on 35L and only came to a stop after I had ordered full thrust reversers after an awful lot of not slowing down. We easily ate up over 3000ft more of runway than we normally would have.Hot coffee and a uniform change afterwards made all the difference in the world.

Copilot program?
I bid 110 percent! It's a can't-do-without utility.MCE controls the default a/c and many of the complex ones. It runs basic commands ("Set heading one five three, speed two one five, flaps two"), full checklists, and the VoxScript feature even allows for customized procedures per aircraft. For example I have a fixed set of procedure names for all my a/c so no matter which one I'm in I can tell my FO to "perform climbout procedures" and she engages the autopilot, raises the gear and flaps, clears the autobrake, and quotes the local transition altitude. If I'm in my iFly or LevelD, I'm even reminded to check my thrust settings.

Photoscenery on separate drive?
Mark, I find it's easiest to do this manually for small groups of folders, but for large jobs FSX's Scenery Library editor might be quicker. So if you copy all of your SimSavvy folders/files to Drive X, you could manually add the 50 states (plus the rest of the world) or you could use the good old Scenery Library in FSX to add each state/region. I used the editor to add the initial states, and the Europe/African/Asian satellite areas later on. But when I changed to the new Arizona scenery all I did was manually change the Local: path. If you do so manually (with Notepad or whatever) then FSX would automatically recognize the change when you next run the sim. And sorry, but I should have mentioned earlier that you should always back up any such cfg file before attempting an edit manually. Unless you never make mistaeks.
