error opening config file

Featured Replies

Hi,Yesterday I did a clean install of FS9 after upgrading to Win7 Pro 64bit. Everything worked fine, and I began installing my add-on's. After each one I loaded FS to ensure no problems (previous experience has taught me this is best!) before installing the next one. I have started FS this morning to continue installing and got the message 'error opening config file' at the opening splash screen. After pressing 'OK', the sim started and appears to be working normally. I have tried removing the last item I installed and the FS .cfg file so it will rebuild a new one, but the same issue remains.Anyone ever had this or know how to clear it?Many thanksmataus

Try turning UAC off and make sure you run FS as administrator... I suspect the config file in question is the fs config file and not one of your add-on's config.DJ

Hi, thanks for the reply. I switched off UAC when I had installed Windows. I used FS several times when I was installing add-on's with no problem. I had another issue this morning when FSX would not load. I've not had any Windows updates, but its a bit weird that both sims had issues when I booted up this morning. ThanksMataus

It is odd - have you tried backing up the FS config file and seeing if FS9 will start and rebuild it? If you had not turned off the machine after installing windows and gone ahead and worked with fs9 it could be that some system library was installed on the reboot - if you haven't already done so, you might reboot and see what happens.DJ
