Im disappointed

Featured Replies

Hey allIve been around this site for years and always found help when I asked; I never complain etc but Im really disappointed that so few of you even looked at my request for help! - sorry.I still have real problems with FS9I get the acontain error all the time now so effectively I cannot run FS9.I have tried deleting the cfg reinstal vid drivers, different drivers, recompile of traffic etc but to no luck?Has anyone else encountered this error??Can anyone help or is it reinstal again (Ive only done that a couple of weeks ago)I cant believe Im the only FSimmer who has had this error surely.Comments anyone?SunWin 2000 pro

I don't think anyone is deliberately not answering your plea for help. But, I'm not sure I understand exaclty what your problem is, and maybe no one else does, either.... try again, please.Sherm

For what it's worth, some other programs seems affected with the latest Windows 2000 SP4. You may consider rolling back to SP3, or upgrade to Win XP?Hope this helps!

> I get the acontain error all the time now . . .What is an, "acontain error?" R-

HeyThx for repliesLet me explain better.I can run FS9 to a point but if I attempt to set "traffic" at 100% the FS crashes to classic send report to Microsoft error page. The reported error is acontain.dll every time.acontain is relative to the labels attached to AI aircraft as far as I can see so I would guess these two facts are related; I do not know how. acontain is one of the headings in your fs9.cfg file. However I have found rebuilding cfg does not correct the error. The error is not aircraft/airport/scenario specific but gives me a 100 percent fail if I try to set traffic to 100.Could this be a FSUIPC problem or related to AFCAD2 in some way via incorrect model radii or something?I am not running SP4 btw but thx anywayId appreciate further comment; I really wasnt trying to be funny but I was very suprised indeed that noone at least replied- perhaps just unlucky eh!These probs can be so very annoying.ThxSun

Have you loaded any AI? Some of the files out there for PAI and others can cause this problem. You my want to delete that file and rebuilt if that is the case.John

>...Some of the files out there for PAI>and others can cause this problem. You my want to delete that>file and rebuilt if that is the case.>>JohnI'd like to know which one of our installers is having this problem you mention John. We certainly don't want that to happen to our users and members.... :-)http://fsgateway.com/frank/fs9paibeta.jpg

SP4 contains crucial security upgrades. Going back to SP3 is certainly not an option as it leaves you wide open to crackers and trojans! The same is true for XP SP1, people who don't install that because it supposedly makes your machine a tiny bit slower are IMO extremely irresponsible and should never have been allowed near a computer in the first place.

HiThx againLoaded any AI -well YES thats the problem lolI have UT and additional PAI but nothing added recently. It may be down to UT but dunno why because it was fine.I will say that it wasnt happening before I loaded AFCAD 2 but just how that could affect it I dont know, unless its because some mdl files dont fit to spaces or something like that. It seems strange its traffic vol related but you see you need the 100 setting to activate some/most of the plans dont you?Finding which file will not be easy, and then how come its not a common problem?Sun

This may sound like a silly solution but it does not seem to be a major issue.Since it only happens when you:".........attempt to set "traffic" at 100% the FS crashes to classic send report to Microsoft error page. The reported error is acontain.dll every time."Don't set it to 100%. Then you statement: "I get the acontain error all the time now so effectively I cannot run FS9." is no longer a relevant comment. You can continue to enjoy FS while trying to find the actual solution at your leisure.BTw, It seems obvious a 3rd party install is causing the problem. if ya don't have a log of what ya installed and when, I'd recommend a clean re-install. Then load in each add-on and test the environment until the culprit shows itself.Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

So what percentage will it run at? 99%, 95%, 90%? What I would do is use TTools and a good editor to access the traffic file and separate out all of the flightplans with their percentages set above the magic number. Then I'd add them back a few at a time. The easy way is to reduce the AI slider to 99% (or whatever) as Racatron suggests but I've never accused of doing things the easy way.R-Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

>SP4 contains crucial security upgrades. Going back to SP3 is>certainly not an option as it leaves you wide open to crackers>and trojans!100% Not true. Unless you are running applications or are exsposed to the internet via a broadband (Always on) connection, a lot of the security updates are not needed and basically add up to files taking up space for no reason. Perhaps you should read this article on SP4. Try here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327194 . You may be surprised to find find that almost 90% of the service pack are known BUG fixes and hardware/software incompatibilty issues. To be exact only 22 of the updates apply to security issues out of the almost 300+ updates contained within SP4. Just becuase a service pack is relesed does not mean that it has to be installed and this is a common misconception by users.>The same is true for XP SP1, people who don't install that>because it supposedly makes your machine a tiny bit slower are>IMO extremely irresponsible and should never have been allowed>near a computer in the first place.Again perhaps you should review your information before posting your typically arrogant and sometimes nasty comments. There was, and still is an issue that would cause MAJOR slowdowns on some machines with certain "Hot fixes" contained within SP1. There is also a known issue to which a fix was released that affected USB 2.0 in certain situations cuasing major slowdowns for a large number of users. Again, a large majority of users are clueless to what is really needed as far as security goes and just download whatever MS shoves their way (Sounds like your one of those people J). If your behind a router and either use the built in firewall capabilities of the router or any of the well known software firewalls there is really no use for a large majority of the "Security Fixes" issued by MS.If you knew what you were talking about you would realize that service packs are mainly meant as a way of providing fixes for Hardware/Software issues and bugs and not as a means of keeping a machine secure. That is the Domain of "Critical Updates"To quote yourself...Perhaps you "should never have been allowednear a computer in the first place".Just some info for those that were interested.Bobby

HiWell today Ive been able to get a result!Airports in the UK will run at 100% traffic which is good.I am sure this is due to some corruption of AI aircraft and will probably disappear when the update for UT is out cos I will reinstall anyhow. What is interesting though is that it seems to be a very uncommon error.Ive been running AFCAD2 for EGLL today and I am really impressed, no crashes no errors. Its a little funny hoiw this thread has swerved; all I wanted was a bit of advice - sheesh..Sun

Sun,As long as your happy and working fine than that's all that matters. My reply was to prevenbt the posting of what is wrong and/or misleading info.Glad you got it worked out.Bobby

Hey Bobby,Thanks for that post. I've never been able to get SP1 to install and also have stayed away from 811493. I run Norton Internet Security and Anti-virus and seem to have a system that runs well. Always wondered about that service pack and since I keep Norton up to date along with some of the Critical Updates by MS feel some what secure.NP
