First Officer problem

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm currently reviewing VoxAtc and so far I believe that the software is a keeper. However I'm currently experiencing problems with the First Officer feature. VoxAtc freezes while asking the FO to perform actions by just pressing & releasing the PTT key (space). It keeps saying "First officer operating radio", but nothing happens at all.Everything seems to work just fine if I ask the FO to perform the task by talking to him.I'm using FSX under Windows 7. Any idea of what might be causing this ?.I also contacted the developer asking for help. Thanks in advance.

Can you pinpoint the actual operation of the FO before this happens?I would really like to try this out, but I need a starting point. I normally use the FO inflight only, when I'm away for some minutes or so. So no ground actions or something got performed by him so far.Just started a flight and I must admit that you are right, he gets stuck when he should call for clearance. He operates the radios, listens to the ATIS and then the point is reached where he seems to wait for something. If I disable the FO then, I can go ahead by calling for clearance but I only get "pass your message" then and the actual clearance text stays unknown.Seems like you have to "walk" through those steps by yourself and later enable the FO then as a workaround.

Hi,Thanks for your reply. This is actually happening at the very beginning while asking him to ask for clearance, etc. During this stage you are required to tell the FO to perform those operations, so you just need to press the PTT button to reproduce the issue.Like you do, I'm testing it in flight for frequency changes, etc. and everything is working just fine as I'm not required to ask the FO to do anything, by pressing K he will just do it.Thanks for taking a look at this.Kind regards.

I have had very good results just speaking into the mic without pressing the PTT button when talking to the FO. I have not tried just clicking the PTT button to prompt the FO but wll do so next time I fly with VoxATC and let you know the results. I am using the software on a win7 Pro 64 system. So far I have had very good performance with IFR flightplans and VFR flights with minimal glitches.

Interesting approach, dbrucem, I will try this the next time.I had some green text there which normally drives me to press PTT and say something like the phrases written, so it's some kind of habit to actually push and talk.I'll report back on that thing for sure.

The problem occurs only when requesting actions to the FO by pressing the PTT button. Otherwise, no problems at all.The solution is to either do ground operations by yourself (my choice) or ask the FO to perform those actions by asking him to do so.However, as CoolIP pointed out, it's far too easy to make a mistake and press the PTT button to ask the FO to proceed with an action when this is actually not required, causing VoxAtc to hang as a consequence.Because of this this I think that we should get the attention of the dev so that this bug gets fixed. I already contacted him, I'm just waiting for his reply.

I still have to try this out. I would make sense to not press that PTT button of course as you are in the cockpit, but my habit always drives me to do it. Thanks for that input again to avoid this tendency.Lets be patient with the devs these days then. Most people I know take those few days between the years to relax for some time. I usually receive postcards then, showing people on remote islands, slurping their drinks or something. I usually reply them with "wait, those two ladies don't look like your wife at all" or something.I don't know if that's a flight sim dev's life I'm describing though. Big%20Grin.gif

I'm a developer myself (web applications) who's flying instead of coding :), so I perfectly know what you mean. No remote islands or piña coladas for me this year though ...

Just to confirm your suggestion, the "call for clearance" without pressing PTT worked fine and the FO performs all actions when you just say the words. So an upcoming fix will only have to address the somehow stuck FO when you accidentally press PTT in this situation. Thanks for that input, helps me to understand my FO better.
