Bug in AFCAD2?

Featured Replies

Using the original AFCAD with FS2K2, I was able to add a Tower with frequency to my local airfield, and watch the air traffic come and go as defined in TTools.Try this using AFCAD2 and FS2k4 if you have the time:- call up a small uncontrolled airport- add a Tower and Tower frequency- add some traffic in TToolsI believe you'll get the same results I did: no one came to my "party". No AI traffic will come.Let me know if this happens! Many thanks ...

FS2004 does not require a tower for AI traffic to operate. Did you build AI traffic to or from that airfield? Are you there at the correct time (remember the AI traffic database is in GMT not local time).I doubt your problem is with AFCAD2.Bob

Bob,I hope you are correct about an airport not needing a tower for AI traffic to operate, but I cannot find an instance of that yet.The question is, can this problem I'm having be repeated on another system.Perhaps you could verify the information and let me know.I am an experienced AFCAD and TTools user. Thanks for the reply ... I would really appreciate help with testing this issue.

The manual for AFCAD 2 states that navaids, etc. cannot be modified.Matt

>Bob,>I hope you are correct about an airport not needing a tower>for AI traffic to operate, but I cannot find an instance of>that yet.Bob is correct. It is mentioned in the AFCAD2.Docs that now AI-traffic will also show up at uncontrolled airports, if you have created a flightplan in which this airport is included and if you have created parking spots there. This leads me to my question:You mention that you have added a Tower and Tower frequency and have added some traffic in TTools. But have you alo created parking spots at this airport?Wolfgang

I have been flying into and out of many uncontrolled airports with the Archer and the Cessna310. The AI fly into and out of them all the time. THey announce their intention to land, they announce that they're taxiing to runway xx, etc. Pretty neat actually. So, yes, they do fly into uncontrolled airports.

I can verify that you do not need an actual TWR or even TWR frequencies for AI to fly into or out of uncontrolled airports in FS2004. AFCAD2 docs is correct.I have tested it and it works quite well without TWR frequencies. On arrival the nearest APP to the local field cleared the AI to final and switched the AI to a local UNICOM type freq like 122.90. I followed the AI to landing and it taxied to parking all the time reporting blind on the 122.90. I also waited for it to depart and it did so on 122.90. Once airborne and in controlled airspace ATC took it over (it was IFR) and everything went according to plan.Make sure there is an AI plan to the airport, that the ATC % is set properly and it will work. One very important point to mention: If you try to fly a commercial AI into a local field with RAMP only parking it will go poof on arrival. By commercial I mean there is a line in your aircraft.cfg that says something like"atc_airline=Delta"Once Delta is there it needs a gate not a RAMP so use AFCAD to convert a RAMP to a gate. There is supposed to be a line that can be placed in the cfg file to avoid this but I have not yet been able to get it to work as yet "atc_parking_types=GATE,RAMP" Sorry for the length.Bill

THANKS SO MUCH BILL ... and everyone else who responded! The key was increasing my ATC% in the FS9 OPTIONS/TRAFFIC.I assumed that if the ATC% was set at, say, 63%, that all traffic above this value would be present. I was setting my new AI traffic (set in TTools) for my rural airport at 80-95%.When I increased the ATC% to 100%, in OPTIONS/TRAFFIC, all the traffic showed up.And so, in FS9, perhaps the value in OPTIONS represents the low level threshold, above which, the programmed AI traffic will not appear.Does this sound correct?

Glad to have been of help along with the other contributors. Your concept of threshold sounds accurate to me.RegardsBill

Not only do they fly at uncontrolled they will bounce(touch and go's) at them as well. Very cool. For those that want to see without doing anything other than starting up FS. Go to Fairfield County Airport in Lancaster, Ohio (KLHQ) Can't remember time of day, but was doing a flight out of there, and in the time it took me to start engines, and taxi to the active, a C172 made three bounces.

I am looking carefully over my TTools notes and FlightPlans, but cannot seem to find the procedure for setting up an AI to touch-n-go.Have you seen it in TTools?

>Have you seen it in TTools?

Bill,You've got my little KFCI homebase looking like the real thing. This procedure works for having aircraft do circuits, and adds so much to the realism. Thanks again for being such a great resource!
