Super Viking-mixture control ineffective?

Featured Replies

One of my favorite add-on GA planes is the Bellanca Super Viking-FSX-from Lionheart Creations. One thing I've noticed, and this may or may not be a problem, is the mixture control. When I'm at altitude, and I attempt to lean the mixture with the mixture lever, there seems to be only two ranges, full-mixture or engine shut-off. With other GA aircraft, I move the lever until the EGT gas temp is at maximum just before engine shut-off, then back-off slightly. This results in the proper air/fuel ratio at any given altitude. But with the Viking, the EGT gauge needle stays constant no matter where the lever is. If I lower the level all the way to the max, the engine cuts off, as it should. But I don't get the same range of movement of the EGT indicator that I get with the other aircraft, which would allow me to lean the engine properly, without cutting the engine off? Anyone else flying the Super Viking notice this?Bob

You sure you're not flying the turbo version? What is the Manifold pressure at cruising altitude?

The model only has a CHT gauge. To lean the mixture pull the knob until the engine just starts to sputter, then push it in enough to clear the sputter. I'm glad you enjoy the plane...I was the one that did the FSX conversion for Lionheart :(

OK, thanks Robert. I was mistakenly looking at the manifold fuel pressure gauge and thinking it was the EGT gauge. Why, I don't know. It's clearly labeled as the "manifold fuel pressure" gauge. I think I need to have my eyeglass prescription checked. Thanks again.Bob
