January 17, 201115 yr I think it's reasonable not to pay through the nose for exotic RAM, but I still think 1600 MHz at CAS 6 is the sweet spot for performance before costs go parabolic and any marginal improvement in performance is no longer worth it.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, COThank you Sir for your kind and informative response. January 18, 201115 yr Hi Folks,Well just a quick update to say that a delivery guy woke me up only 10 minutes ago with my new system. At least they stuck to their 2 day delivery as promised. I'm too tired to do anything technical at the moment due to a night of partying and celebrating. Will get this bad boy built by around 1-2pm LA time, and get everything set up. I will follow NickN's guide to the character, although I will use the nVidia Inspector setup on the PMDG general discussions board. I have close to $1000 worth of addons for FSX to be installed, so it's going to take a full 2 days of installing, restarts, defrags and FSX boots before everythings done. Once done, I'll fly a specific flight (medium range) in a specific payware AC (747x) between 2 major sceneries (AS LHR & FSDT JFK + AS Manhattan). Then I'll OC this beast as high as I feel safe, hopefully around 4.8-5GHz. Then I'll repeat the exact same flight, weather etc and compare the performance.
January 19, 201115 yr Hey folks,Systems up and running. It's OCd to 4.6 easily. Will push it further later. Everything is fully installed for FSX. All the defrags, reboots etc etc (as per NickN). Now, I must retreat to bed, before I crash and collapse on top of my first child.(my PC that is...I don't have children yet)
January 19, 201115 yr Congrats Alex ! After you used FSX a bit love to hear your impressions.Guess my biggest question is, I know SB at 4.6+ will offer better framerates, but does it help with FSX's core stuttering issues or is that just due to the program itself? What are you seeing in turns or pans in dense areas?
