ATC ignores me at KATL

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,As the title (and description) suggests, this happens mainly with approaches to KATL. I have Imaginesim's scenery installed, but even before that, this seemed to be an ongoing issue. No matter where I fly from, from which direction I'm approaching, or to which runway I've been vectored, ATC always gives me the initial vectors (for any given runway), then completely ignores me before completely canceling my flight plan. Is this a known issue with KATL in FS9 in general? Once or twice I've managed to be vectored almost all the way there - except if that happens (and it's rare), I'm usually cleared to the tower about 60 miles outbound instead of the usual 20-25 miles. That has only happened on approach to runway 8L. Any suggestions?George

Hi George. I have had the same annoyance at KDTW until I remade the afcad, the problem disappeared. I also have ImagineSim's KATL installed but have never had any such problems as you describe. My thought is; are you you using the AFCAD that came with the ImagineSim software or the third party one by Jim Vile? I am using the one by Jim Vile. It supplies all of the approaches etc. It however is no longer available anywhere on AVSIM since the hack. If you do not have that file and would like to give it a try, PM me and I will send it out to you. I have sent numerous copies of "katl_af2_jv_imag sim" out to people, since Jim has chosen not to re-upload it. If you do have this file installed I would suggest removing all the associated files and doing a fresh install of them to see if that fixes your issue.Best regards,Mel

Hey there Mel,Thank you so much for the suggestion. At the moment, I'm using the AFCAD file that came with Imaginesim's scenery (I would've posted this issue on their website, but I don't think it has a discussion forum). I'm open to new suggestions, so yes I'd love to try Jim Vile's AFCAD. The only tweaking I've done with Imaginesim's is with the gates (re-assigning them to their respective airlines). Also, it should be noted that before I purchased the Imaginesim scenery, I was using an AFCAD for the default scenery - and encountered the same issue (particularly when approaching from the south). Thanks for your help, Mel!George

PM me your Email address and I'll send the file out to you. Since you mentioned it I have never made a approach to KATL from the south, hmmmm, . . . I will have to try just to see what happens. I am not aware of any other reports of problems though. Just a thought; any scenery or other AF2 files for that area (Eastern US)installed, that might be the source of the problem? I should also ask if this happens on every flight or whether it is a occasional thing.Best regards,Mel

I assume you're using AI? And lots of it? KATL is quite a busy airport, what you describe can happen as the result of an overloaded ATC/AI engine. There are a few things you can try to make the traffic flow more efficiently, but at the end of the day FS9 was not designed to handle the amount of traffic we throw at it.
