January 18, 201115 yr I have to restart my engines every 5 minutes, doing a flight from YYZ to MEM, the engines shut down a FL340 Im now at FL240 with a TAT of -11C and an outside of -35C my fuel temp is showing -9C and I use the FMS cheat of setting the temp to -58C and Im still getting engine shutdowns ENG1,2,3 OIL PRES LO are the only warnings Im getting and I don't have any failures enabled. This was happening earlier in the day aswell when taxing on the ground, I have been flying this bird since 09 and have never seen so many shutdowns, Im using ASE for weather.
January 18, 201115 yr I don't think that's freezed fuel problem...the JetA fuel freezes at -40C°.If the fuel is too cold in the MD-11 you have to descent to warmer altitudes...In MD-11 there isn't any fuel heater, only a system that move the fuel around the plane to warm itself, but it's not capable as the fuel heaters...Cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."
January 18, 201115 yr Your fuel temperature will never be colder than TAT. Remember, Total Air Temperature is the temperature of the air plus friction against the aircraft. Essentially, this is the temperature of the skin of the aircraft. Thus, unless you're hovering, TAT itself will always be warmer than SAT (basically the outside air temperature). I honestly cannot think of anything that would cause this given the information you've provided. Have you installed anything new recently? Are the low oil pressure warnings the only ones you're getting? Are you starting from a saved file? Ryan Gamurot
January 18, 201115 yr hello,i had same problem, but i guess i found the solution. At first don't need to switch Jet Fuel Type in FMC.In your overhead,Fuel part, select MANUAL in SYSTEM button, then, make active the three TRANS button of the three tankers. At this step, you have to keep manual button. If you come back to Auto (in SYSTEM)your engines will stop as well.Eric

January 18, 201115 yr The only thing that I can think of that ASE can do to kill the engines is severe turbulence. The air suddenly shifts direction and hits the engine at the wrong angle or suddenly forces more air down the intake and you end up with a flameout. Outside of that nothing other than high rainfall can kill the engine regularly. But then again I don't even think the weather is simulated well enough for this to actually happen. And since you say this happens on the ground, it must be a problem with the aircraft itself. Also, I was thinking it might be a problem with the fuel panel (i.e. the pumps not being on) but if its in auto and you arent getting any alerts or you don't even use failures, there is no reason the engines should fail. The panel should always be in auto unless it or the QRH specifically says to switch to manual. One thought though is to cycle the panel; select manual and then back to auto and see if that fixes the problem. Ryan Gamurot
January 18, 201115 yr I remember a similar problem with my Maddog and AS6...regarding the severe turbolences that stops both my engines.Solution was to change options into AS6, deselecting the turbolences simulation, that's not realistic at all in FS world, unfortunately...Cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."
January 18, 201115 yr Author Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I do have the fuel pumps on Auto, I have wind shear turned off in ASE and use fsuipc to smooth things out, at the time there was really no severe winds going on ( nothing out of the ordinary) and this was happening on the ground aswell while taxing, I did a repair of my MD11 today, maby something got muffed up, I test and see if the problem persists.
January 18, 201115 yr Author So I ran a repair of my MD11 this morning, I loaded it up placed it already running on the runway this time and waited, and sure enough after about five minutes it shuts down ENG OIL PRES LO on 12and 3 and the PACKS 123 and BLEED AIR 123 are off this is wit ASE running, Did the same thing again with ASE off and it showed no symptoms of shutting down had it running for 45 min just sitting there on the runway, so then I decided to fire up ASE again, sure enough after about 5 mins it shuts down again, there is really no odd weather winds on the ground 169@9 and an OAT of -2c, I have been using th MD11 since 09 and ASE since its release and this is the first time ever seeing anything like this, its just so out of the blue.
January 19, 201115 yr Author Well it looks like this is not a PMDG problem, its all my Aircraft even the default MS ones, even with no weather programs running, the engines just shut down after 5-10 mins, I have no idea at all whats going on, one thing I did notice is in the Aircraft folders there is a little brown box icon with .AIR on it, its the installerpackage and when I click on it a screen pops up saying an error ocured and it is damaged, I don't know if this brown icon has always been there or not, at this point Im just taking shots in the dark on what is wrong, the only thing really that I have installed lately is one of the updated FSUIPC modules, if anyone has any suggestions please help me out I really don't want to do a reinstall.
January 19, 201115 yr Hi,this might be the prob? http://forum.avsim.n...les-irritation/right click the file, click on properties, on the general tab, where it says opens with, change it to windows 'notepad'Although i don't have a clue if this is the cause of your problem Alex Cadle
January 19, 201115 yr Author Thanks Alex but I think I might have found the issue, I check my settings for my saitek throttle quadrant and noticed that I had the null zone slider set to 0, I increased it and am doing a flight right now and so far (knock on wood) there has been no issues, not sure if this is the problem or even how my slider was set to 0 in the first place, its been very frustrating.
January 20, 201115 yr I have mine always set to 0 and have never had a problem. But hey, if it works for you, it works. I do find it odd though as I don't know why it cause the engines to cutout. Ryan Gamurot

I do find it odd though as I don't know why it cause the engines to cutout.Im hoping that was the problem, so far I have completed one flight, I hope these symptoms will not come backI really thought it might have been some sort of validation issue with the MD11 but when it started happening with all my aircraft regardless of having ASE on or off I was starting to run out of idea's, maby the saitek throttle does not like a 0 null zone, is that what you are using?
January 20, 201115 yr Yeah, I use the saitek throttles too. The only problems I have is that I took a break from simming for a bit while I was working on a project. After I started back up, my throttles were spiking (not holding a steady setting and sometimes going from idle right up to full) and I had to rapidly move them up and down a few times to get them to respond correctly again. Every now and then i have to do this. Ryan Gamurot
