Fs9 suddenly stopped working in Vista

Featured Replies

Hi, I had FS9 running without a problem in Vista since Vista was released, now it keeps crashing on startup. When I look at the error details the "Panels.dll" is causing the crash, I extracted the panel.dll from my FS9 CD and replaced the one on my system but same problem.I can only think one of the Vista updates has caused this as I did not use FS9 for about a month and FS9 was woking fine before that (i used it almost every day).On the create a flight screen the box where the aircraft is displayed is black and the mouse pointer flickers as well as the busy halo, i can select another option on the left menu and all look fine, but if I click the ok button FS9 crashes I had Vista SP1 FS9 working fine until now, I just installed SP2 to see if that fixed it, no luck.Anyone got any suggestions?CheersDesDell XPS4502.4 GHz Quad Core4GB RAMNvidia 8800GTX 2GB

Sounds like maybe the airplane specified in the default flight, or the .flt file itself is corrupted. Try going into your Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder, and rename or delete the UI generated flight.flt and UI generated flight.wx files, then start FS9 and use the create a flight screen to start a new flight with a default MSFS airplane, and FS9 will build a new one. Also, check the box to make it your default flight.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hi Bob,That did not work but thanks for the advise, but I solved the problem it was the display setting somehow getting corrupted, I set the display to 640x480 and bang FS9 loaded up, I then changed the display setting back to my original setting and all working perfectly..CheersDes

I also just started having a problem with my FS9 program not running. I have been following this topic and have tried the two suggestions but with no success. My problem is a little different. When I try to run FS9, either "normally" or as an administrator I have the same results. First I get the normal "splash screen", this screen will even show that FS9 is configuring files if I have made changes using something like AES or REX. After a while the splash screen will go away and it appears that the program is getting ready to run, my screen goes black like it always does just before the main FS9 interface appears, but I do have a mouse that moves, and then after a few minutes FS9 just stops and I am back on my normal desktop.Any suggestions, I have already tried removing the cfg file and the other two suggestions on this thread.Thank you in advance.R Jones
