Backcourse heading?

Featured Replies

Hi,OK, this is a question I always wanting to ask but now is the chance. Why does the FS backcourse heading for an airport wrong because whenever I land my aircraft with the backcourse heading it usually is like a few meters away from the runway and normally crashes into the airport or aircraft which was taxing. Does anybody know how to fix it and why is this?Thank You

Hi,Because the back course is not as accurate as the normal ILS. You should take control of the aircraft once you see the runway and guide your plane to the centerline. It is NOT a hands off approach. :)Hope this helps,

Hello,Tom, I don't think that's his problem and I have to disagree about your statement. If he's flying the approach maintaining the track bar centered It doesn't If manual or not he has to be centered in relation to the RWY.I never tried a BC on FS9 but I usually shoot a lot of BC approaches on FSX and In real life, and they work perfectly, so probably he's having some kind of scenario issue there, providing that he's flying the approach properly (either for Back Course of Front Course).Usually, I'm not sure If 100% of the time, the BC is WAY more sensible than the Front Course due to the proximity of the localizer to the threshold, I would like to respectfully disagree with your statement because I never heard that the BC is less accurate than the Front Course, but... I might be wrong too.So 031195ds, if you are shooting the BC maintaining your track bar centered you should be centered to the RWY.my best regards

Interesting that you should say that because I have used many back-course approaches and have never discerned any more inaccuracy than on an ILS approach - when it is wrong I find it is usually either string winds pulling me off it (the needle is in the right place and the plane isn't) or a modified A&FD file is wrong (I'm on the needle but the airport isn't). But like you, I wouldn't stand by my guns on that, maybe others experience things differently.John

So what is the best thing to do to get my backcourse heading as straight to my runway?

Hi John, yeah that's exactly what I think, maybe an AFCAD or a bug really on FS. When I said that the Back Course has more sensitivity than the Front Course I was referring to real world situation. I'm not sure if FS simulates this sensitivity (I'm pretty sure that it does not) since I never tried to run tests and compare both of them (I mean BC vs FC) all I can say is that the all BCs that I have flown on FSX (all of them in Canada) worked perfectly (worth to mention that all of them with the default scenarios).031195de, If possible try to fly the LOC (BC) RWY25 at CYOW (Ottawa Int'l).You can find the plates here:IVAO Canada (if you are an IVAO member)http://charts.ivao.ca/CAP4/CYOW.pdfOr from VATSIM (Toronto FIR)http://www.czyz.ca/files/charts/CAP4_pdf/CYOW.pdfAnd tell me If it works ok, or of course, tell us which Approach are you trying to shoot and is not working so we can test too.regards
