January 29, 201115 yr I"ve just bought a new system running a intel core i5650. 3.2gig with an ATI Raedon HD 5570. Will this run FSX well? That I5 is an expensive dual core and that video card is far from ideal for FSX. Why didn't you ask before buying?
January 29, 201115 yr Author I"ve just bought a new system running a intel core i5650. 3.2gig with an ATI Raedon HD 5570. Will this run FSX well? That's just great I was told this rig would handle it, what would you recommend?
January 29, 201115 yr That's just great I was told this rig would handle it, what would you recommend? It's not that it won't handle FSX decently, but you could have got much more for about the same money. For a CPU, the new Sandy Bridges seem the way to go. As for the video card, FSX likes nVidia cards more than AMD's. There's countless driver issues related to AMD cards. There's workorunds for most of them though so don't worry too much. You'll be stuck with 4x FSAA probably but that's about it.If you can roll back your purchase and need advise post a budget and you'll get plenty good tips for your new build here. Most important thing for FSX is overclocking your CPU, worst case scenario if you can't send those parts back, your chip is a very good overclocker
January 29, 201115 yr Author To late to send it back, I've always used Nvidea but this was bought as a package. What do you recommend for video?
January 29, 201115 yr Any Nvidia card, just depending how much you can cash out. From GTX 580 down over 570, 560...And it wasn't us who said this computer would handle it, now isn't it? If not, who did?
January 29, 201115 yr Author So I pulled the plug and got a GTX 460 1GB the best bang for my buck. Thanks
March 5, 201115 yr i just bought an ati 5780 and it rips the backside clean out of the nvidia! so much more control over aa. i get 50fps+ with all maxed out, rex hd, gex, utx and thats flying london, 3 major airports with high res scenery in them.nvidia = 10-20

Did you ever compare it to GTX580? Similarly priced, and Nvidia is known for its AA control via Nvidia Inspector, which superseeds all ATI can do. And 50fps+? Come on... seriously? Do some shots to show what you are claiming. Probably on LOD 4.5 (default).
March 5, 201115 yr ok then, let me get the rest of the stuff installed and then i'll grab some screenshots. i dont understand why everyone is in love with nvidia. ati's control ova aa gives far better results compared to nvidias

March 6, 201115 yr ok what do you struggle to set in the ati panel for AA? this is just my personal experience. the gtx580 is not the same price range of card as a 5870
March 7, 201115 yr ok what do you struggle to set in the ati panel for AA? this is just my personal experience. the gtx580 is not the same price range of card as a 5870Nor the same performance range... You claimed it "rips the backside clean" of Nvidia cards. Nope.I will say if I only wanted bang for buck, I'd have an AMD card in this rig. But that's not the case. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
