Square Trees - Which Object is it?

Featured Replies

I'm guessing that I've missed something in my object libraries somewhere and I'm hoping someone might know off the top of their heads which object it is. I'm getting square trees in many of my sceneries and FSDT Hilo is no exception. Anyone know? Please advise and thanks!Mark

Have you checked with the FSDT folks - specifically their support forum?http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/

Yep...I posted this thread here either right before or right after I posted it to the FSDT forum. I was kind of hoping that someone else had run into this issue so I could get it resolved quickly. Well, Unberto has responded but this issue isn't resolved yet.I went ahead and remarked out everything in my scenery.cfg file except for the Microsoft default objects and the FSDT stuff and the trees are still square. The only textures that I have left are the Gerish Grey tree textures and the following BGLs...BASE\Scenery\Trees_0.bglGeneric\scenery\Agen_XTrees_lib9_2.BGLGeneric\scenery\GGv3_XTrees_lib9_0.BGLNow I've been using these BGLs for years and haven't run into any issues, (at least), that I know of. I checked all the tree textures with XnView and they are all transparent as they should be. Regardless, I think that the tree textures that the FSDT scenery uses are included with it. Oh, this is a brand new and fresh install of FS9. I did a reinstall, (for the fun of it if you can believe that), 2 days ago. All the other sceneries that I had installed were done by hand...by me. So I do know what I've got out there and it's not much yet. I manually installed some scenery for California. The FSDT Hawaii scenery are the only automatically installed scenery that I've done so far.So I'm stuck until some kind soul helps :)Mark

If you search around other discussions on tree problems (it comes up again and again) you will find this is usually caused by duplicate libraries without all the textures. The lazy solution to this is to copy all your textures into FS9/texture but that's a pretty lame way to do it because it is messy and could also cause issues with different libraries using the same texture names. For me, I always try and seek out that offending library and step on it. Disable it and that scenery will then use the good library.John

Thanks for that John. I went ahead and did a search of my HDD for *tree* and found NO dups. There isn't enough re-installed yet! I think that this maybe turning out to be PHTO specific. Now I'm guessing here but it could be due to a file named PHTO_Settori_Tree.BGL. I'm guessing again but I think it maybe looking for 2 files, (PHTO_TREE.bmp and PHTO_TREE_LM.bmp), and they both appear to be OK. At least from a layman's point of view.So I'm hoping the the guys at FSDT can come up with an answer too...Mark

Alright, figured this one out. The 2 texture files that are used for rendering trees at PHTO, (PHTO_TREE.bmp and PHTO_TREE_LM.bmp), were corrupted. I took a look at the PHLI files and found out that it also had 2 tree bitmap files and that they were the same as PHTO...just named differently. So I copied PHLI_TREE.bmp and PHLI_TREE_LM.bmp to the PHTO folder, renamed them to PHTO_TREE.bmp and PHTO_TREE_LM.bmp respectively and voila...no more square trees at PHTO.Thanks for everyone's help on this and now it goes into the deep Avsim knowledge base for future reference :)Mark
