Creating a new mission

Featured Replies

Hi.....I'm new to this routine. I am trying to create my own missions in FS X. I have added the neccesary files to get the Object placement tool. now I have setup the six files that I need before I setup the metadata. I have these three files setup in the Mission Creation Tutorial folder as requestedCessna_Incomplete.jpgCessna_Complete.jpgMissionCreationTutorial.HTMLMissionCreationTutorial.wxMissionCreationTutorial.FLTI have made it to step 4 but, when I open the FSX and goto the missions area and the MissionCreationTutorial is there. When I click on it, I get the error:Unable to load image "c:porgramfiles(x86)\microsoft games\microsoft flight simulator x\missions\Mission In Progress\Creation Tutorial\Cessna_Incomplete.jpg."and when I click ok it goes to the main screen and the description of the flight is there but the picture of the flight is not there, instead there is a checkerboard. I have also checked the xml and FLT files and they are exactly as what it says in the Mission Creation directions from the SDK folder. The files are below please tell me what the problem is.The xml file:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?><SimBase.Document Type="MissionFile" version="1,0"> <WorldBase.Flight> <SimMissionUI.ScenarioMetadata InstanceId="{5B598A03-5616-4343-933B-D49A6271C401}"> <Descr>ScenarioMetadata1</Descr> <ScenarioType>Mission</ScenarioType> <LocationDescr>Seattle</LocationDescr> <EstimatedTime>15 minutes</EstimatedTime> <UncompletedImage>Cessna_Incomplete.jpg</UncompletedImage> <CompletedImage>Cessna_Complete.jpg</CompletedImage> <MissionBrief>MissionCreationTutorial.HTML</MissionBrief> </SimMissionUI.ScenarioMetadata> </WorldBase.Flight> <MissionBuilder.MissionBuilder /></SimBase.Document>The FLT file[Main]Title=MissionCreationTutorialDescription="Fly a Cessna out of Boeing Field, reach an certain altitude and speed (1000 feet and 80 knots). Your images are probably not in the proper format (which is why they look like checkerboard). You must use the ImageTool to convert them to the proper format. From the SDK:"Now add three files to the Creation Tutorial directory: two image files and one HTML briefing file. The two image files should be square and will appear in the Missions list of ESP. The first will appear before the mission has been completed by the user, and the second when the mission has been completed. The images should be 380 pixels wide x 232 pixels in height and either 256 color or 5-6-5 format (use the Imagetool utility to convert 24-bit bmp files to 5-6-5 format). The image should give some idea of what the mission is about."Mission designers hang out at http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.comCheers

I have tried to find the Imagetool Utility on line but not able to locate it. If you have a link where I can download it, I would appreciate it

It should be located somewhere in your Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK directory structure. Have you searched your hard drive? (I'm not sure of its exact location at the moment as I am away from my dev machine. If you search, you should find it: imagetool.exe)Cheers,

Sorry to be such a bother about this,I found it and changed the format of the images and now I get this picimg1.jpgwhen it should be this pic:Cessna_Incomplete.jpgThe bottom picutre was done by the Imagetool utility. This is the image I put into FSX Missions folder So what would cause the top one to show up in the mission area when I click on the mission I made?

Hmmm ...I'd suggest you open your mission XML file and search for the ScenarioMetadata and then post that section so I can look at it.Also, I'll need the exact filename of your uncompleted and completed images? Also ... if you post your question on http:\\www.flightsimulatorxmissions.com then more mission designers will see your question and maybe someone will come up with an answer quicker (as most of the day usually I can't answer questions here).Cheers,

Open up the image and then Save As a .bmp using the same name. Make sure the XML file reflects this new path.

Yeah, we use .bmp file types as well. Much easier to deal with for this purpose. No need to use the imagetool.
