  1. Still worth it.
  2. Glad I could help.I can tell you that I have the Seitek X52 system (the joystick, rudders and throttle quadrant). I couldn't be happier with it. I too beat them up, and put a few of the old Microsoft Sidewinders into the garbage after just destroying them on military sims. I really like the Seitek. It's expensive, but if you fly a lot they hold up really, really well.Cheers,
  3. Try it again, but don't go full throttle. Go about 90%. If you jam it full throttle, you'll induce low RPM (I don't know why.)
  4. Hmmm ...I'd suggest you open your mission XML file and search for the ScenarioMetadata and then post that section so I can look at it.Also, I'll need the exact filename of your uncompleted and completed images? Also ... if you post your question on http:\\www.flightsimulatorxmissions.com then more mission designers will see your question and maybe someone will come up with an answer quicker (as most of the day usually I can't answer questions here).Cheers,
  5. It should be located somewhere in your Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK directory structure. Have you searched your hard drive? (I'm not sure of its exact location at the moment as I am away from my dev machine. If you search, you should find it: imagetool.exe)Cheers,
  6. Your images are probably not in the proper format (which is why they look like checkerboard). You must use the ImageTool to convert them to the proper format. From the SDK:"Now add three files to the Creation Tutorial directory: two image files and one HTML briefing file. The two image files should be square and will appear in the Missions list of ESP. The first will appear before the mission has been completed by the user, and the second when the mission has been completed. The images should be 380 pixels wide x 232 pixels in height and either 256 color or 5-6-5 format (use the Imagetool utility to convert 24-bit bmp files to 5-6-5 format). The image should give some idea of what the mission is about."Mission designers hang out at http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.comCheers
  7. You know what, Ed ... I don't come to AVSIM to have AVSIM staff rip apart my posts. Not only is that rude to the people your boss invited here, but I don't think Tom Allensworth would appreciate it.I'm forwarding your message to him so he can see how you are tattering his reputation. There are lots of non-pilots who enter the Hanger Chat forum to ask what you apparently consider to be "typical" and stupid questions. They don't come here to be ridiculed by AVSIM staff members. I don't appreciate the tone or content of your post and I'd ask that you delete it as it makes AVSIM look really bad and reflects poorly on your professionalism.Go review something. Do something useful with your time at AVSIM.Finally, I'd offer you some advice my mother offered me as a child: If you don't have anything positive to add to the conversation you'd be well advised not to join it.
  8. As a non-pilot, I've found this to be the most astounding aspect of sidestick design. The co-pilot flies with his right hand, but must relearn how to fly with his left hand when moving into the P1 seat (or at least that's how it seems to the non-pilot).I guess they manage somehow, but I've never really understood how this ever got off a drawing board. Are naturally left-handed pilots favored in hiring?
  9. No, I wouldn't. But I would want to be aware of this open investigation before boarding this aircraft as a pilot or passenger, and thought it should be linked in the thread since this is the most comprehensive news story I've seen recently on this ongoing investigation.
  10. I am not a real-world pilot, but I'd read this before I even flew as a passenger on an Airbus A330.
  11. Mark,Carrier Landing IMC, by Brandon Seltz, is an expert-level mission included with the Acceleration add-on from Microsoft. It's the most white-knuckled mission I've flown in Flight Simulator. The mission has you following another aircraft in tight formation to a carrier steaming in very bad weather. Your aircraft is damaged. You're vectored to the deck in weather that I'd guess is about maybe 100-200 feet of visibility.Once you complete the mission successfully, you'll definitely want to join the US Navy. It's quite exhilarating to successfully complete.Cheers,
  12. Mark,I've noticed that any last second corrections (say ... in the last 2 seconds of landing) will result a lot of times in the "tip over." If you're correcting at the last moment, then you were out of shape and you probably should have gone around.Once you start to feel really good about your skill, go fly the Carrier IMC mission by Brandon Seitz. What a great mission that is to test your skillz!I'll sure put the pucker back into your butt!(I also liked the Carrier series on Hulu to learn more about Carrier Ops in general and the amazing pilot skills required to do this type of work).Cheers,
  13. Scott,Couple of questions about FPS Limiter.Your goal was to maximize Frames Per Second. Why would you use a program to limit frames per second, but then set it to "unlimited."Secondly, FSX already allows you to set unlimited frames per second (or to limit frames). Why is third-party software necessary? The largest gain you reported - by far - was using this piece of third-party software, and yet it seems so counter-intuitive.Also, I can't find a website for this software (and that seems odd to me). The only place I can find this software is on rapidshare or filefront.(Forgive me for saying this, but my experience with software distributed on these two sites causes me to have some hesitation to go there ... but this could just be my experience. YMMV. Not suggesting anything here ... just seems dodgy.)Can you link me to the website of the company or person who produced this software?Cheers,
  14. I don't see lift changing either, but with torque sliders at maximum realism, the amount of force necessary to keep the nose from yawing seems to be changing along with the gauge and noise effect. (I haven't tested this to see if the sim is actually altering this data). But, feels that way.YMMV, but that's been my experience. So that's why I dampened my torque realism.Made the missions somewhat less taxing.Cheers,
  15. And please do keep in mind that what they are not doing is just as important as what they are doing. For example, they are not simulating 22,000 airports and there is no AI flying around, nor ATC keeping track of their Cessna's position and vectoring it to a moving jetway complete with baggage handling. There is no weather, changing and updating real world as they are flying. None of the Cessna's gauges were moving either.I imagine the FPS would be lower if they were doing these things. Just a guess. :0Plus ... I only saw 1 type of tree!
  16. This is a known bug that unfortunately could not be fixed prior to shipping; and will affect torque. You can turn down the torque realism to dampen the control issues related to this problem. Should assist you when trying to learn to hover the beast.Cheers,
  17. Who said Microsoft was done making Flight Simulators?Certainly not Microsoft: "We will continue to produce, sell, and support the latest version of Flight Simulator as we plan for future versions of the franchise."I dunno ... sounds like they're planning for future versions of Flight Simulator.

Plus, of course, you can fly the recreation yourself in 3d in FSX.The free downloadable mission, "Miracle On The Hudson" is available here:http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.comCheers,
  19. Geof's mission is not one to miss. There are also hundreds of free downloadable missions at this website:http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.com
  20. Hi Jake,It's easy. Two-step process:In ScenarioMetadata, set the IsMultiPlayer property to True. Then, in your mission design, include a Player object for each player (for example, if you are creating a mission for 4 people to have a race, then you need 4 player objects. If you are creating a mission for 8 people to have a race, then you need 8 player objects). That's pretty much it.If you have questions, there's a whole group of mission designers here who can provide answers. You can also look at their code, help beta test their missions, and download hundreds of free missions:http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.comCheers,
  21. Get busy modeling this sexy thing!
  22. Did you visually check the lights?I think the switch animation is broke, but the lights in fact stay on. (Not 100% sure of this, but 99.4%). Real as it gets ... some stuff in real airplanes is broke too!; )Cheers,
  23. And there's a reason for that: performance.Default FSX aircraft remove seldom-used aircraft systems (air-conditioning systems, for example) so that your performance flying these aircraft aren't bogged down by the sim having to think about those rarely used systems. Also lowers the bar for average users who are more interested to fly ... and not worry so much about the "systems management" side of being a pilot.Of course, you may prefer realism and be willing to sacrifice some performance to get every system modeled. Such aircraft are out there to be had, because Microsoft has created the infrastructure to support such highly advanced aircraft simulations in FSX, but just be aware that total systems modeling has some performance implications.Cheers,
