Augusta Eh101 throttle control

Featured Replies

Hello all, brand new here. I can fly the Bell and the Robinson in FSX but whenever I try an Augusta mission the heli's engines keep spooling up and down. Not to mention how dark the panels are. Is this normal? I watched a vid on youtube and the engines were not spooling up and down. Anyone know if this is normal or not? Because that heli is totally unflyable the way it is on my system. Thank you in advance.

On mine, there is some spooling noise but no affect on flyability. There is a 3-engine start-up which takes some time. The panel is pretty dark when the sun is not shining on it. I moved my eyepoint over to the left seat in the cfg file.

thanks, but the throttle indicators do keep moving up and down. Maybe I just don't have the knack of flying it yet. And I've never seen the panel lighten up with sun on it yet. Any tips you want to share? Thanks.

They definitely do - it's a known bug unfortunately....

I see what you mean about the indicators. The turbine engines are controlled by a governor to maintain rotor rpm and the joystick throttle only controls the blade pitch. I've never flown a real turbine-powered helicopter but can imagine some strangness with the slow spooling turbine engines. In any event, I havn't noticed any problem flying the simulator EH101 due to it. Two pictures are attached to show the panel in shadow and in sunlight. Both are dark, but there is a lot of difference.

This is a known bug that unfortunately could not be fixed prior to shipping; and will affect torque. You can turn down the torque realism to dampen the control issues related to this problem. Should assist you when trying to learn to hover the beast.Cheers,

@ Art, yeah I was wrong about the panel lighting. Thanks for pointing it out. How can you fly the thing if the engines keep spooling up and down randomly? I'll try turning down the torque slider.@ fsx_missionary, Do you know of any planned patches to fix the issue? I find it difficult to find product support for this game. I haven't looked extensively, but more than I should have looked. Thanks to both of you.

Regardless of what the instrument panel indicators are showing and the engine sounds, I find the lift generated by the rotor blades to be very stable in the simulator. I established a hover a few feet off the ground, and the helicopter stayed at that altitude for several minutes without any movement to the joystick throttle (collective) and with the indicators going up and down. This is with all realism settings to far right, so I don't think a reduction on the torque slider will have any affect.

Thanks Art, but apparently it's a known bug. I started a free flight with the bird on the ground and as I was on the radios, the engines spooled up and yawed my heli right. And they kept doing it. If you have a fix for this problem I'm sure a lot of people would be interested to know how you did it!!!Thanks again.

I don't see lift changing either, but with torque sliders at maximum realism, the amount of force necessary to keep the nose from yawing seems to be changing along with the gauge and noise effect. (I haven't tested this to see if the sim is actually altering this data). But, feels that way.YMMV, but that's been my experience. So that's why I dampened my torque realism.Made the missions somewhat less taxing.Cheers,

While I don't understand your experience with yawing while sitting on the ground with no collective (this does not occur with me), I now understand the torque changes while hovering. I'm using rudder pedals, and corrections are so automatic that I didn't notice it. I can understand how difficult it would be to fly simulated helicopters, especially this one, without rudder pedals or reducing the torque effect as proposed by others. I've probably flown the EH101 more after reading this thread than I had previously since installing Acceleration. The varying torque is less of a problem to me than trying to stop the forward momentum of this huge beast to come to a hover.

Art

thanks all. Yes I do have torque at max settings and I am using rudder pedals. The other two helis don't do what the EH101 does, that is, I start any mission, or free flight and every i dunno, 10 seconds or so the engine spools up about a third of the way causing the heli to yaw right without me touching the throttle. Also while flying. You said it's a known bug do you know if microsoft is going to address it? Anyways, still frustrated but thanks.

Solving the torque oscillation issue:Edit your EH100's aircraft.cfg as follows -in the [Helicopter] section -// Oscillating torque issue.correlator_available = 1 // Oscillating torque was 0governor_pid = 0.5, 1, 400, 0.01, 0.01 // Oscillating torque was 0.25, 0, 0.9, 0.01, 0.15Next: Get and install Helitrim, the balance of the Merlin is such, that it

than be up there wishing I was down here"

And a little tip to get passed the problem of the hardly visible gauges. Since reading the gauges in MFD can prove difficult I then open a "new view" showing same VC, I then zoom in on MFD, drag and resize until only the gauge shows. Then place it somewhere practical. G-forces off or else gauge won

"I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there

than be up there wishing I was down here"

Thanks I'm gonna try that tonight!
