February 9, 201115 yr During the start up procedure I cannot find a functioning switch to turn on the avionics and radio.vololiberistaI don't know that there is one. What you probably need to do is start your flight with a default aircraft that has an avionics on/off switch and make sure they are turned on, then switch to the DM 1-11. (Quite a few FS9 addons don't have an avionics switch so you will encounter this with other products too)Dave did a superb job with that aircraft and you will have loads of fun with it. It's one of the best freeware aircraft out thereIan

Have you tried his DH108 Comet? It is top-notch and quite challenging as it's really late 40's/early 50's technology. One of the most elegant aircraft ever to fly...

February 11, 201115 yr I have been upgrading the VC10 for myself! There is a lot missing!!vololiberistaAs I recall, it was a collaboration with a countryman of yours that enabled Dave to so dramatically upgrade his panels and add an excellent VC to the 1-11 and then they released the Comet as a team project. The Trident was the first one they re-did and is a bit rough compared to the other two, though the programming to simulate the autoland system on the Trident is absolutely brilliant. Good luck with those VC10 upgrades - maybe you could post some screen shots when you've got it "tweaked" the way you want it :(
February 11, 201115 yr Author What I hope to do one day is to get full on close-ups of the engineers panel. Until then I've added a few bits to the overhead and the main. also I have "upgraded" some instruments on the premis that the a/c is still flying and therefore has to comply with modern regulations. I am also trying to work out a way of reproducing the glare shield lights. The night lighting has also been changed to reproduce the orange colour (at least on my video set up!!).Until then here are a couple of images. The first pic of the main panel has 19 modifications:- 1&2. The INS Nav mode changed from single to dual and the updating lights moved to a more prominent position overhead.3. Two functioning fire handles which also turn off the fuel cocks. The flight manuel considers a two engine out scenario as the maximum so I left it at that.4. Cabin call 3 presses "Ready for take-off" and a barely audible passenger safety briefing heard in the background.5. Decision height also calls out "landing!"6. A small gauge to tell me my taxying speed.7. Authentic cabin height gauge. This is normally by the P2's left knee but I moved it to the P1 position. This is coupled with control gauges on the overhead.8. TCAS All currently flying VC10's are mandatorily fitted with TCAS.9. Likewise the old black artificial horizon would have been replaced as they have been by the RAF.10. Working TCU's11. Weather radar icon.12. 24 hour UTC clock "stolen" from the RAF!!!13. DM's RAF model just has a static bmp here. On mine it works and I use it to confirm the INS tracking. The GPS gauges and icon have been deleted from the cfg. file14. Tail trim overrun lights. During the "Before Start" checklist the tail fin is rotated from min to max position before setting it for take-off. The lights come on at each end of travel.15. Adjustable spoiler control and accompanying warning light. During descent from cruise the spoilers should be cracked open to avoid overspeed. Now I can do this!16. Feel fail and power control lights come on and go off according to which generator they run from. (not yet technically correct but close!17. Outside temperature gauge and time in the air gauge. Not yet in their correct position. One day maybe.18. Parking brake and light.19. Brake pressure gauge normally by P1's knee.Oh! I missed a number 20!! There is a delay built into the gear lever so that you hear "Gear up!" first. Now the overhead panel:-1. Three gauges controlling cabin pressure. On the left "set cabin height". Right top: "Differential pressure". Right bottom: "Rate of change". These are not the authentic gauges. I'm working on those as they are similar to the 1-11. But these gauges look good especially at night with the cockpit light reflecting on the glass!!2. Radio cooling fan switch.3. The Flight Control annunciator panel is now properly lit at night.4. Stall warning test switch.5. Airconditioning recirc. fan.6. Working pressure gauge.7. Doors open and closing lights. Also mirrored on the engineers panel.8. Cabin call and ground call lights. The cockpit receives the correct calls from the cabin e.g. "Cabin pre-taxy check complete Escape slides in position" Thus "Steward's Report Received" on the checklist now makes sense!9. Engine fire test switches.10. Wind shield heating switch.11. Cabin and cockpit temperature gauges (work in progress).12. Louvre fan switch.13. Volt meters (not really correct but they look good "for the moment!"14. Circuit breakers. In time some of these will migrate to the engineers panel. Not every overhead was/is the same so I have used a little poets licence here. Also there is a voice checklist that runs. Though not every single item. For instance the real pre-flight checklist has almost 100 items. I have cut that down and trimmed slightly some of the others simply because the VC10 isn't a one man crew ship!!!Any comments, ideas, additions or improvements welcome.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
February 12, 201115 yr Author What is the secret to not overheating the engines on takeoff?Aaaahhh!!! :-) The Conways on the VC10 don't suffer the same problem have a look and (for this video turn your volume to maximum as the VC10 lines up for take-off) to illustrate the power of those engines!!!!!!!!!!!The flight manuel states, smoothly increase power to maximum, brakes off passing 85%. Once clear of airspeed and noise abatement restrictions maintain 93% up to cruise altitude or until mach.84These engines are as noisy on take-off as Concorde was :-))))))))))vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
February 15, 201115 yr Author I have another problem with the cabin altitude controls. The main gauge works except for the "cabin alt change" on the bottom right of the gauge. It appears to do nothing. Also when transferred to another a/c the cabin height gauge does not register the "actual" airfield altitude when set to the required QNH. Instead it always registers zero. I have all four elements transferred. Is there another? I can't find it.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
