February 13, 201115 yr What is the deal with all the major International Airlines (except Qantas) going retro with their liveries? Is it just a fad?Daniel
February 14, 201115 yr Check out what Porter Airline in Canada has done....They are a low budget airline with an all Dash8 Q400 Fleet and they have a 4 star rating.....They are right up there with the likes of Emirates.I will say they are very retro, they have a lounge that is more like the 1960's then anything. Retro uniforms, all leather seating, free food at the gate and on the airplane and free drinks. Before coming back to New Zealand I had the chance to fly with them from Toronto to New York, I must say I was more then impressed. Modern airlines have done away with this level of service however this is one airline that has got it right....Here are some of their promo pics:https://www.flyporte...e?culture=en-CAhttps://www.flyporte...s?culture=en-CAThey are the only low-budget airline in the world with a four star rating:http://www.airlinequ...nking/4star.htm Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
February 15, 201115 yr Wow!To judge from their Skytrax ratings, there are a few major airlines that could take some tips from Porter.D

Talk about finding a 'niche' market. Low budget, with service!! So food on board is purchased? And how far does free drinks go on board? Water and tea and coffee only? Limit on alcohol?Glad to hear about your travel tails!Daniel

Water and tea and coffee only? Limit on alcohol?Glad to hear about your travel tails!DanielI will list the things they offered when I flew with them.-Free access to the lounge-Free WiFi-Free use of IMac Computers and ADSL-Free catering and drinks in the lounge-Free Food on the flight-Free drinks on the flight (Including Alcohol)They came around once for food and twice for drinks on the flights but they don't really have flights longer then 2 hours as they are short haul Dash 8 Q400 fleet. They flew Queen Elizabeth II around Canada last summer so I figure if they are good enough for the Queen, They are good enough for me :( All of this and the flight was only $105. I took a couple of pictures so you can have a look at what I experienced...They are located on Toronto Island Airport so you have to take a ferry:Here was the free food and catering area, you just help yourself (and I did):Pictures of the lounge while waiting for your flight:Our airplane:I took a video of the departure as well: Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Very nice view of the city. Did you make it up Toronto Tower? I have been up Tokyo Tower, Sydney Tower and Kuala Lumpur's Twin Towers. But there is another tower in KL and I am not sure of access to that. I wish I went up the WTC when I was in NYC last decade. What a powerful aircraft (remarkable) the Dash 8 is. I might well just give them a go. Did you go to La Guardia? I haven't been to any airport in NY. Just KIAD.Daniel
February 16, 201115 yr I went up the CN Tower. It is really cool. Has a glass floor as well.I never made it up World Trade Centrer. I remember walking by the concourse back in 1997 looking up and thinking I'll go up someday. Didn't have time that day. We flew out of Newark this last trip so I haven't been to Laguardia yet.I like the Dash 8 as well. I am booked on a flight this Monday from Wellington to Nelson in an Air New Zealand Dash 8 Q300. That is an awesome short flight over Cook Straight and into the northern mountains on New Zealand's South Island. I am really looking forward to this one. :( Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

I think they do don't they?Daniel

ANZ treats you better then most modern airlines and are a 4-star rated airline as well. I enjoy flying with them. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Even the US Navy are going retro!!! Among others are Air France, Thai Airways, Garuda Indonesia, US Airways, British Airways, Lufthansa, Alitalia, Continental, Austrian, Iberia, SAS, KLM, ANA..........Well Qantas have improved their level of service. Like British Airways, the management must fight against the unions. The A330 and A380 is the best thing to happen to Qantas, since they didn't go for the 777. I would have got the 777-300ER for International routes and used the 747s for domestic and Asian/New Zealand services. Just an idea.Daniel
