February 15, 201115 yr I have recently upgraded to a 2500K Sandy Bridge/ Asus Evo MB/ Nvidia GTX570 Corsair Obsidian 700D/H70 and Corsair 750W Power supply. The only part of the system that I retained from my old build was the memory. Its GSKILL RipJaws 4 X 2GB DDR3-1600 PC3 12800 Timings 8-8-8-24 1.6V.I got the system up and running and loaded FSX etc and have been able to get a 4.8Ghz OC on a 1.40v CPU V CORE. Now I am getting the odd BSOD and I increased the Vcore to 1.41. I do not really want to go higher than that. I still get the blue screen once in a while especially in FSX when in very dense scenery. Could the memory be causing the BSOD or is it just down to the Vcore and could I basically buy better memory with lower timings? I am not very savvy when it comes to memory and there have been a lot of articles written about how Sandy Bridge does not need very expensive memory to run well.Any opinions or thoughts greatly appreciated...Oh by the way Sandy Bridge ROCKS. I came from an E8400 @ 4Ghz to a 2500K @ 4.8Ghz and its like night and day the framerate has taken a massive leap upwards.. could not be happier.....Hamish Edited February 15, 201115 yr by hamish7777
February 15, 201115 yr You need to downclock the ram, set your oc, then stress test. Got a stable cpu overclock?...bring the memory up, stress test again. Make sure ram timings and voltage are set manually. Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
February 15, 201115 yr Author Okay will do.. but question is on a theoretical level is this good memory or would lower timings help or make any difference? Will post back....Hamish
February 15, 201115 yr The joy of SB, I tested my oc at stock 1066 ram, got it stable and then put the ram at speed 1866; nice you can islolate the ram now in an oc situation:) Simon

February 15, 201115 yr your mem should be fine; 1600 cl7 or 8 seems to work best on SB; the higher mz stuff can be problematic as I have read on some oc fourms; make sure you give enough voltage to dimm's if it is rated at 1.60; you could try 1.6 when you get to runninng it at rated speed? Memtest is good too; but if you are running it at stock you should be ok. Simon

February 17, 201115 yr Author Hi GuysOne quick question, I have been running 2 x sticks of 2GB (4GB Total) on the Asus Evo Sandy Bridge Board. I decided to put in another 2 sticks making 8GB total but using all the available slots. The computer wont even boot in default with no overclock. Do you think it does not like having all slots taken and would I be better off buying 2 X 4GB Low Latency Ram? I have been hitting the 4GB total and am running Win 7 64bit so could do with another 4GB...Am reading about overclocking so will try at default and work my way up. I wonder if one stick is bad?Hamish

If all the sticks are ok, maybe updating your BIOS could help
