February 20, 201115 yr Hi guys, first let me say i haven't bought a computer from anyone since the Compac 386 23(5)mhz way back when. Everything since then i've built myself.I was looking at this guys videos :http://www.youtube.com/user/Mhimhi66#p/u/5/iUwdPQQTWrY and he has his specs (partial) listed lower down. His stuff seems fluid: am i missing something? Here is my question for the guys who know this stuff. I've got a 1000watt psu ,a 460gtx, windows 7 ultimate, all i should need would be the CPU, MB, and memory right? His spec areWin seven rcIntel [email protected] ghz.12 Gb di Ram ddr3 1600 oczNVIDIA gtx 285 FSX sp2 accelerationI am willing to spend up to $1,000 dollars this time on an upgrade.I would really appreciate all advice. Thanks P.S Overclocking is not in my genes. February 20, 201115 yr Author Guess i'II answer my own questions by pointing out where and what i foundhttp://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115070or So the only minefield left to navigate is the defective Motherboards.Memory not a problem. Alex Cadle
February 20, 201115 yr Wouldn't go for all 12 gb memory, will do nothing for fsx. And I've read that it may hinder overclock in the 4 GHz range. If you edit video or Photoshop, then 12 would be it. Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"

February 20, 201115 yr Based on your budget, do 4 or 8 - just make sure it's fast memory with low latency. It will have no bearing on your ability to overclock the CPU as memory speed and CPU speed are not tied together on Sandy Bridge as they have been on past systems. If possible, try to avoid populating all 4 memory slots as that can hinder your ability to overclock the memory. Some guys have reported fixing OOM errors by upgrading from 4GB to 8GB of memory. For the small cost penalty, I would just recommend going with 8GB to avoid any potential trouble. If this is primarily an FSX computer, get the 2500k, 8GB memory, and any decent motherboard of your preference. That ought to put you nowhere near $1000 - so perhaps you can upgrade your case, cooling, hard drives, or something else. Don't touch the video card until Kepler is released at the end of the year. That's my advice anyway. February 20, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the pointers guys,I just want something that'l run FSX with a lot- not all- of its eye candy. If i can get all fine. Right now my sliders are at about 45% of full performance. This is why i asked about CPU, MB and MEM. Alex Cadle
