March 3, 201115 yr I'm certain this can be found in another thread somewhere (though I haven't found it yet). I spend most of my time flying around small airports where small Cessnas and Pipers fly. I would like to download some of these to add to my sim, but there are almost none to be had in FSX (a lot of Boeings, Airbuses, and bizjets though). There are quite a few to be found in FS9 though, so, I would like to know if it is possible to use FS9 AI aircraft in FSX? I have read an article, where by you can fly FS9 native aircraft in FSX by creating an Aircraft folder and editing the FSX.cfg file, and I have even done this. I would just like to know before I spend a lot of time on it, if it works for AI planes too. Yeah, I know I could try it once and see, but someone out there might have already done it and knows the pitfalls to watch out for.

For all practical purposes, there are no FSX-specific, AI-designed aircraft. Of course you can use FSX "flying" aircraft as AI but you'll be paying a whopping resource hog penalty for doing so (space and performance). FS9 had the same problem when you used default "flying" aircraft as AI. Note: "Flying" aircraft means you fly it - not AI.ONE CAVEAT: You'll have to remove the default FSX traffic file from the FSX\scenery\world\scenery folder. If you don't, nothing in AI will work. Other than that, you shouldn't have any trouble using FS9 AI aircraft (as AI) in FSX. I have more than 400 aircraft types with more than 7,000 texture sets in my FSX AI environment - all FS9 designed AI aircraft.Hope this helps.Frank
March 3, 201115 yr Not true, the presence of ANY fs9 traffic bgl will automatically render the fsx style traffic bgl inoperable. You can simply rename it to be on the safe side if you feel so inclined Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
March 3, 201115 yr Whether the model for the AI aircraft was made for FS9 or FSX doesn't matter, it's what the traffic BGL file is made with that impacts the default FSX traffic. If the flightplans are made for FSX and use FS9 MDL files, that's OK. But there may be problems with some of the FS9 aircraft as to how they handle transparency. Think black prop blur. There are some revised files for these types of issues floating around the various corners of the FS community.
March 3, 201115 yr Author Thanks, guys. I didn't think it would be too big an issue, but you never know when going from one FS to another. One question though, did you place the aircraft in a new Aircraft folder, a Scenery folder or the SimObjects Aircraft folder?

One question though, did you place the aircraft in a new Aircraft folder, a Scenery folder or the SimObjects Aircraft folder?I think it is safer and simpler in the long run to keep all FS9 AI in their own folder(s) referenced in FSX.cfgSimObjectPaths.7=G:\AIAircraft - likewise the various types of AI traffic in their own scenery folders; that way they can be controlled independently. I.e.:\default_FSX_traffic\Scenery\FS9_addon_traffic\Scenery\military_traffic\Scenery\Test_traffic\SceneryI keep the default FSX traffic in it's own folder so I can turn off FS9 traffic and restore FSX traffic on the fly...
