March 4, 201115 yr I have FS9 but have been using FSX for so long I can't seem to get the Aircraft Reload to work in FS9. In FSX I have CTRL-F11 set to reload the aircraft. I, and a friend, set this same assignment in FS9 and it does not work. The Change Assignment works OK but the command does not work. How can we quickly reload the aircraft if an aircraft.cfg or panel.cfg is made? Thanks, Bob.
March 4, 201115 yr Hi Bob,In FS9 I have "Ctrl + F8" to reload what amounts to changes in panel cfg. I can not remember whether that was my assignment or if it is default, (I have used that for a long time.) anyway it works for me. For reloading the complete aircraft (situation) I believe the default assignment is set as "Ctrl + ;"I hope this helped.Regards,Mel

The command I was trying to use was "Reload User Aircraft" and I set it to CTRL+F11 which is what I use in FSX where it works. In FSX with it set to CTRL+F11 I can make aircraft.cfg or panel.cfg changes and reset the aircraft without having to change aircraft or reload FSX. In FS9 this command does not work at all. A friend tried it and it did not work for him either. Regards, Bob.
March 4, 201115 yr Hello Mel:I, being that friend that Bob referred to, tried the Reload command also using Ctrl-F11. It also did not work for me. I tried your suggestion of Ctrl-F8. Same results. I mentioned to Bob that on many occasions with FS9 (that's the only sim I use as he uses FSX) when switching to Windowed mode to minmize FS (for whatever reason) and then switching back to full screen mode, that at least 70% of the time when I attempt to switch back from Windowed mode to full screen, FS crashes and the screen goes black. The hour glass appears but nothing ever happens. The only way I can get back to FS is to activate Task Manager, end the session and then restart FS. I have always wondered why this happens and whether it is peculiar alone to FS9?ThxChris
March 4, 201115 yr Hi Chris,For FS9, reload user aircraft = Ctrl + ; At least that is what works for me. In assignments it is listed under Simulator commands / Reset current flight. The Ctrl +F8 command that I assigned will reload the panel. That assignment is found under All commands / Reload user aircraft. As for the crashing when switching from full screen to windowed and back, I honestly don't know the cause or the fix for it. I can say that a year or so ago I encountered the same thing, then for some reason beyond me the problem went away. I do know that there was no fresh install or new hardware involved, so the only guess I have is that it may have been a aircraft I was using at the time or GPU related settings that may have been changed. ( I was doing a lot of tweaking about that same time. ) I realize that isn't much to go on but that is all I can offer from my experience. Additionally, I am not using FSX so whether this is a problem that both FS9 and FSX have in common, I can not say.Regards,Mel

CTRL+F11 works fine in FSX for Reload User Aircraft on my system but no combination I have tried for Reload User Aircraft in FS9 works at all. I just want to reload the aircraft not Reset the Current Flight which is the other command that you mentioned. I think Reset the Current Flight just puts your plane back at the default starting point that you had when you started your flight and does not reset the aircraft configuration or panel. I may be all wrong though. I'll try your suggestion next time I fly FS9 tomorrow. I have been away from FS9 for a long time and don't remember this problem when I used to fly it a lot. Regards, Bob.Update: Here is what it says in the FS2004 Panel SDK:KEY_CONTROL_RELOAD_USER_AIRCRAFT RELOAD_USER_AIRCRAFT Reloads the user aircraft data (from cache if same type loaded as an AI, otherwise from disk)Here is what it says in the FS2004 Aircraft Container SDK:Testing Changes to aircraft.cfgTo see the effects of a change, the aircraft must be reloaded. Aircraft are loaded into the memory cache from disk, so you have to flush the cache to enable your changes to be reflected in-game. This involves a couple steps:1. Configure a key command to Reload User Aircraft. Set up a key command to reload your aircraft from within the simulation. Go to Settings, Controls Assignments, and scroll down to the “Reload User Aircraft” event. By default, it’s unassigned. Use Change Assignment to configure a keystroke combination for this event. Once assigned, you can use this key command to reload the aircraft within the simulation.2. Turn off AI Traffic in the game. AI traffic aircraft are maintained in the cache and even if you update the aircraft you’re currently piloting, if the same aircraft is being used by AI traffic, then your cache won’t get updated automatically by simply reloading the plane. So to ensure your aircraft is reloaded from disk, you must also go to the Settings Screen, choose Traffic, and set the Air Traffic Density slider all the way to the left to 0%.Now you can test changes made to aircraft.cfg within the game by using the Reload User Aircraft key command.I did not try turning off the AI Traffic. Maybe that will help.
