March 6, 201115 yr Thanks cmeeks! And what about a fast pair of sticks with more than 4gb?Do u you think 4gb is enough to have a smooth experience with fsx?SalvatoreYes it is. You really need to push FSX for it to use more than 3GB of RAM and then, assuming your OS is W7, Win 7 does a great job managing memory and will free up space for the apps (FSX)
March 6, 201115 yr What should I do if Microsoft Flight benefits from hyperthreading? Should I go out and buy a 2600K then? There's about a $100 difference in price but I got my 2600K at Micro Center for $279 so sales can be had and the difference then would be only about $50. From what I have read in reviews I don't think faster ram will benefit much when playing FSX plus RAM is pretty cheap today. RAM speed might benefit in Microsoft Flight should that sim be released in the near future. FSX uses the CPU more than the GPU so I think the GTX 470 will be more than sufficient. I still believe that if the person can afford it, they should get the 2600K, just in case and to make the investment a bit more future proof.Best regards,JimThe OP can do as he wishes of course....but as we have zero idea of the HW requirements of Flight or its performance potential I can only suggest he builds for today. Faster RAM at CAS 6 or 7 will most certainly benefit FSX. NickN has discussed this at length in the past. If money is no issue then by all means buy the 2600K and certainly if OP is doing any video encoding etc. Flight may benefit from 6+ cores, so maybe he should hold out for high end SB in Q4? GTX 470 is now equaled or in some cases bested by the GTX 560 Ti. If I was building today GTX 570 would be my minimum plus there are benefits for other software if the user so wishes.
