March 5, 201115 yr Hi guys need your help to build my new rig.I just want to obtain a safe but not extreme overclock (4.0 gb should be ok for me).I'm a little bit confused about ram. Here's my future system:Cpu i7 2600k,mobo ASUS P8P67 PRO Rev 3.0,cooler noctua nh d-14,videocard zotac gtx 470,power supply corsair 850w,storage wd velociraptor 300gb.And what about ram?Your precious suggestions will be appreciated!Greetings from Rome!Salvatore

Because if not, you will have to spend a lot less money. There is the i5-2500k out there, no hyperthreading but you don´t need this in most cases and it´s only arround 180€. I´m going to upgrade my system(see sig below) and I also thought of the i7-2600k but the other guys here told me that this CPU isn´t the only one to oc easily. With the i5-2500k you will get arround 4,5 GHz which is more than enough and high above your 4 GHZ border. But if you want to get 5 GHZ or close to this a i7-2600k is the one to go with. About the RAM: 4GB would be suffice a first but if you want to load in heavy scenery (e.g. some photoreal sceneries) take 8GB and you´re on the secure side. I don´t know what speeds are good for this but I think 1333 MHz are suffice but I´m not into this thing.I hope I could help you a bit.Steffen Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 5, 201115 yr Author Thank you for your clear explanation dear Steffen!Very precious advice!Actually i don't use photosceneries but a lot of addons(pmdg, fsdt scenery, rex, gex etc)...do u think 6gb would be ok?What brand and what model? Corsair for example?appreciate your help!Salvatore

What case? Coolermaster? If you look through some of the threads in this forum, you'll see a lot of system specs with ram shown. That's how I decided upon mine. I would go on the Asus website and look at support for your particular motherboard and then download the QVL for memory (Qualified Vendor List). It will show you the memory that will work for your motherboard. That's something I didn't do and wish I had known about before I bought my RAM. Mine works great but the QVL says it's not fully compatible. I would stay with the 2600K unless you have a financial issue.Best regards,Jim

When I fly arround in Orbx Pacific North West with the Turbine Duke I get a usage of about 1,5 Gb and this is without any sepcific weather addon so on your system FSX might use arround 2-2,5 Gb or more so there is a plently of room left for the OS. Corsair is an nice brad indeed. In the case that you overclock your CPU the RAM spees will also be a bit overclocked (This will be done by the RAM copntroller automaticly to catch up the CPU speed so your RAm will get a bit warm. Therefore wou have to look that you get soem ram, with a heatsink. Here you´ll get some ideas what to take: http://www.corsair.c...-solutions.html Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 5, 201115 yr Author What about this ram sticks?I'm totally ignorant about timings and stuff like that... http://www.bpm-power.com/it/product/5489/http://www.stele.it/default.asp?l=1&pType=-1&cmd=getProd&cmdID=4748thanxSalvatore
March 5, 201115 yr You want high MHz, small timings. Any of the combinations below will be good. If it doesn't cost a ton more, I would opt for the higher MHz options.1600MHz CL6 or 71866MHz CL7 or 82133MHz CL 8 or 9Out of the choices on that website, these are the ones I would consider:Corsair XMS3 Classic 1600 7-8-7-20Corsair XMS3 Dominator 1600 7-8-7-20Corsair XMS3 Dominator 2133 9-10-9-27With no budget, my preference would be the third one, but in reality it won't make a very noticeable difference for FSX or anything else for that matter. For FSX, maybe a couple fps between the cheapest and most expensive option. The XMS3 Classic series memory would also be good for clearing your NH-D14 heatsink. March 5, 201115 yr As HT has no benefit whatsoever in fsx, go with the 2500K and put the money saved towards fast ram or gpu.You will still easily hit 4.5ghz + Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
March 6, 201115 yr As HT has no benefit whatsoever in fsx, go with the 2500K and put the money saved towards fast ram or gpu.You will still easily hit 4.5ghz +What should I do if Microsoft Flight benefits from hyperthreading? Should I go out and buy a 2600K then? There's about a $100 difference in price but I got my 2600K at Micro Center for $279 so sales can be had and the difference then would be only about $50. From what I have read in reviews I don't think faster ram will benefit much when playing FSX plus RAM is pretty cheap today. RAM speed might benefit in Microsoft Flight should that sim be released in the near future. FSX uses the CPU more than the GPU so I think the GTX 470 will be more than sufficient. I still believe that if the person can afford it, they should get the 2600K, just in case and to make the investment a bit more future proof.Best regards,Jim
March 6, 201115 yr Author Based on your precious suggestions, this one should be the right choice for me:http://www.stele.it/DDR3_CORSAIR-RAM-DDR3-6GB-1600Mhz-XMS3-DOMINATOR-DHX---3x2GB--KIT-CL7.1.1.15.gp.2753.-1.uw.aspxRegarding cpu i said "Safe oveclock...4.0gb is enough for me" cuz i'm not expert, but if you assure me i can reach 5.0gb easily with 2600k i'll buy that one:)ThanxSalvatore
March 6, 201115 yr 1155 is only dual channel memory, so you only need 2 sticks of ram. Those are the exact same sticks of memory as these. Anyway, those will be a good performing set of memory. You might be able to clock them to 1866 while retaining the low 7-8-7-20 timings. March 6, 201115 yr Are these timmings that important? I´m on building a new rig in a few weeks/months and therefore I will have something to do with these things. Can someone give me advice on timmings and what RAM would fit best?
