New computer on the way

Recommended Posts

Man, should have kept it! But I know... we are just too good for that.Yeah, the batch thing is pretty much sure. But it's worth a try. I can always not unpack it and send it back - it doesn't cost me a penny more, I get the money back automatically on my credit card.

The idea is brilliant for sure, let us know how it goes

I never had successful RAM overclock. Why should this one be any different?Corey, do you have yours running at 2133? Since you said you have the same one, but why not then at 2133 rather than 1866?
I actually bought my memory specifically to overclock it to 2133. Problem is I get BSOD and I can assure you my motherboard is the problem. I've seen a few other people having issues with overclocking memory on the UD5 and this motherboard also wouldn't let me run 4 sticks of Mushkin 1600 6-8-6-24 even if I fed it more voltage and changed the timings to 7-8-7-24. I even had a Mushkin rep helping me out and the best we could get was 1600 8-8-8-24. I'm actually tossing around the idea of switching to Asus when I get my B3 replacement board. Aside from the memory issue I love my Gigabyte board, though.Anyway, I figured since my memory is underclocked then I may as well undervolt it. My point in saying I'm able to do 1866 at only 1.56v was to show that it definitely ought to be able to 2133 at 1.65v or less. I'm not the least bit concerned about running 1.65v on a Sandy Bridge system. Unless it costs a lot more, there's no reason not to spend the tiny little extra to try and get that extra 2% to 4% benefit. This one should be different because with Sandy Bridge, you overclock the memory completely independently of everything else. It's super easy.

Alright, that sounds right.Would you be so kind as to test it at 1.45-1.5? This memory is rated at 1.5V @ 2000mhz, so running it 1.56 is actually overvolting it already by far. 1866 should be possible with less than 1.5.

No sir, it's rated at 1.65v @ 2000mhz. We are talking about this memory, right? Anyway, I'm running prime95 blend with it at 1.48v while typing this. That's pretty well under the 1.65v it's rated at and I still have not tried lower Big%20Grin.gifEasyTune6%20Build%202010.12.28%203202011%2064804%20PM.jpgCPU-Z%20%203202011%2064902%20PM.jpgFor $150, I believe this memory just became my #1 recommendation for people looking for 8GB... assuming I can actually clock it to 2133... but I'll have to wait for a new mobo to try that.

Yea, that's the one. I'm looking on http://www.corsair.com/cmx8gx3m2a2000c9.html and I see SPD: 1.5V. Its tested voltage is up to 1.65, but as I understand it, 1.5 should be what it's rated. I guess Newegg doesn't think you undervolt the RAM :biggrin:But as we can see, even at below 1.5, it still holds. So great! I'm definitely getting those sticks. Hopefully same quality as yours!

1.5v is for the SPD speed of 1333MHz 9-9-9-24. The 1.65v is for the tested speed of 2000MHz 9-10-9-27. Be sure and let me know if you get them to 2133MHz.

Well done - very well done, Word Not Allowed! I see you got the GTX580 AND the 2600K Big%20Grin.gifDo you think MSI's cooling solution is really any better than the reference vapor chamber cooling solution? Anyway, I love my Twin Frozr. Compared to the normal air-cooled reference coolers, the Twin Frozr editions really make a huge difference in temps. Just not sure how it compares to the vapor chamber stuff.Ah, here we go. It doesn't really clear things up, however as the fans are running 400RPM higher on the MSI and the clock speed is higher...

Ehm, it doesn't really matter what kind of cooling... it's gonna get a watercooling block. MSI is supposed to be a reference design, so all should be good.I am somewhat worried about warranty - but I never broke a card through cooler change...And those EVGA and Zotac cards cost like 40€ more.

I found Zotac that's only 10€ more, so I ordered it instead of MSI. I see much more Zotac/EVGA cards around, than MSI... and MSI doesn't OC well supposedly.

I'm gonna stay with Asus. If it's broken, I'll give it back and then get another one - maybe even UD4. I'm in no hurry. But thanks anyway.
