Coastline change after installing VFR scenery

Featured Replies

Just got a new PC.and am now installing sceneries etc. When I got the strange sea (see my attachments) I started to try and find a solutionFound this article on Avsim dated 2004the "missing beaches" are in fact missing default Land-Water-Mask files (LWM), which define the details of coastlines and lakes and are located in the regional sub-folder so FS9Scenery. They all start with HP9* and it appears one of your add-ons moved or deleted them. If you don't know which add-on did this the best option is to reload those files from your original FS9 CDs.HORIZON VFR NL is the only scenery I think I have with LWM.In the new PC in FS2004 SCENERY/EURW were several files related to HORIZON VFR, not checked other SCENERY Files. What is put into the EURW file? When I cross checked my old PC, which still has FS2004, with the new one, I found two blg,s which were altered in the new PC toHP9 48140.XXXHP9 49130.VFR Nl Disabled.I think one or both is creating my problemDo I need to copy & paste one or both bgl's to the new PC, and do I need to delete one of both of the altered bgl's.I do not want to screw up my scenery, of course I will back up the EURW folder first.

This problem is in other parts of the world and therefore not unique to Holland.Forgot to ask where on FS204 I can find the Default water scenery & textures as I am assuming that Eurw is where the problem is because VFR NL is also in that folder.I am presuming that it is a scenery and not a missing texture. There are many different files which have HP9 in them.Just need to know which folder and HP9 number(s).A friend has clean install of FS2004 and I have older PC with FS2004 where I can get files from.Others have had the same trouble, but I could not find any info about which file.Hope someone can help. Thanks

in your FS9 go to:Settings->Display->Scenery TabLook at your Water effects bar - what is it set at? Try setting it to max. Also just above that bar is the Terrain Detail bar - is this set to 'Land and Water'? - which is the max setting. Turn it down a notch to 'Land only'.

Hello,

When you set water effect slider to max (full right) the terrain detail slider will automatically set on "Land Only" position !Regards.bye.gifGus

Yes, I am aware of that. I just wanted to make sure the OP tries 'Land Only' for sure.

Thanks for your adviceThe change did not work, I also tried my own suggestions without success. The coastline sea is in other areas OK, Tahiti and Miami. However Holland, Bahrain, Dubai etc have the about the same sort of sea textures.Have enclosed a photo to show what I mean.It looks very shiny as though the sun is beating down.Looked in WORLD/TEXTURES and everything seams to look OK.Have a VFR file with 12 files ( wa 13-24 ) and a Back up with 19 files ( 10- 28),also backup nr 2 which I removed (same dated etc)On my old PC I have Numbers wa 1- 9, could this be the trouble?? WA texture Nr 12 is not included on both PC'On the Horizon is blue.My mistake I have Nr 1 -9 on the new PCHave also a scenery b file with a path world/texture/VFR but this folder is empty.Transferred files from VFR but no change.By mistake installed VFR twice in FS2004, both showed up in SCENERY LIBRARY. Deleted the first install from Library (reason for two back up's ?)Also have other GE textures, Global 2008 etc. will the library order make any difference.

Hi.If you're referring to the colour of the shallower coastal water then I don't think the problem is with LWM or coastlines. It seems to me that you may somehow have installed new water textures or effects. Maybe some packages use different colours for tropical and temperate waters.I don't see any problem with the actual interface between land and sea except that your vector coastlines are missing. Personally, I prefer it that way and have disabled all my vector coastlines where I have photoscenery, and in a few other places too...Try some of the free water effects and textures packages in the library here (sorry, I can't remember what they're called- someone else will surely fill you in).LWM is HP*.bgl and vector coastline is HL*.bglLWM defines the shape of the sea (anything not specifically defined is land by default). If you disable a few of the HP*.bgl files you will find that flat land suddenly extends a long way into the ocean. I think that beaches are mostly made of vector coastlines and they don't necessarily follow the shape of the sea when you've installed new LWM.Neither of them will affect the colour of the water.Regards,D
