HiI replaced the DG on the Glacier Girl (David Copley) panel with the Beech Baron HSI, in order to make ILS approaches, and to make using the autopilot hdg hold easier. I was planning on shooting a couple low-vis ILS approaches using the HSI on the Glacier Girl panel. I was just wondering, did the real P-38 execute ILS approaches? Does the real Glacier Girl use ILS approaches? Or is it just strictly VFR?

Hi,As the P-38 Lightning was flying in the 1930s and 1940, I doubt that they had ILS installed. Whether Glacier Girl had an ILS installed after its rennovation, I don't know, but these people might:P-38 AssociationMy guess is that like many warbirds she is VFR only.Alastair

I was reading your forum today, your question does Glacier Girl use ILS approaches. I know the pilot personally if you give me a week or so I can find out your question and let you know. I volunteer at the museum that this plane comes to from time to time for maintenance. What a incredible aircraft inside and out. Look at the attachments to see the masterpiece.

Thanks! :( And could you also please ask why most, if not all warbirds flying today fly VFR? I have never heard of one warbird that flies IFR. I've posed this question a number of times on other forums but I haven't got an answer yet. Does anybody know if the B-29 "Fifi" uses ILS?
