November 24, 200322 yr Hi Guys,Out of the blue, a problem started with FS9. Here is the chain of events:I downloaded the latest critial updates via Windows update (XP Pro). It included IE 6.0 SP1. After the load and reboot, I launched FS9 and chose real weather just as I have done a thousand times. But this time, the sim errored out to the desktop after the weather downloaded. The error was showing a problem with weather.dll.So, I restored my system back right before the updates (assuming there was a problem with one of the updates) using System Restore. All went well, and my system was back.I then launched FS9, and again tried to download real weather again. It downloaded fine, but then crashed FS9 again stating the same problem with weather.dll.Not sure what happened as I was using the sim the day before extensively with no problem.I never had a problem prior to this.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,JD
November 24, 200322 yr I have WinXP Pro with all updates and don't have any problems with the weather.dll. If you get a Send/Don't Send menu, have you clicked on the bright blue detail area to see what is actually causing the failure.Since you are using WinXP Pro, are you using an administrator's account when flying fs2004 or a user/non administrator's account?Have you installed any addon weather programs?W. November 24, 200322 yr I finally narrowed down the problem, but don't know why it's happening. I had made a change the other day of adding the PanelAsTexture=0 to my DISPLAY section of fs9.cfg. I then disabled AA in FS and enabled 4x AA on my Nvidia card. After I removed the PanelAsTexture line, the problem went away. I'm not sure why this is would affect weather.dll, so back to research. I normally use AA within FS, but I was experimenting for better performance, and heard that using AA from the card gives better performance. It seems to, but certainly it does have its minor drawbacks. Thanks for your help.- JD
December 9, 200322 yr I have the same problem. I thought it was because I replaced the "weather.dll" file. But that /Johan Windh
December 9, 200322 yr Its been random crashes like this on ANY module for me lately.I thought it was not having downloaded winds aloft selected to download, and it still crashes.I have had crashes with ntdll.dll weather.dll atc.dll and many others... I don't know if the terrain problem is causing the crashes and it just selects a dll as the error or what.ChrisBy the way its a clean install with no addons... I'm wondering its anything to do with a compressed directory...
December 10, 200322 yr I have heard about issues in the past when allowing your FS folders to be compressed. Generally speaking, compression causes issues (more so with Win 98), but I don't think it's a good idea for XP either.- JD
