November 26, 200322 yr I was wondering what MAG meant when it refers to the wind speed that you see on the top of the screen when you press shift Z, eg..30 MAGIs it measured in miles per hour, kilometers per hour, or knots? No matter what international unit of measure I have set, it is always listed as MAG.
November 26, 200322 yr Mag is short for magnetic. It is telling you that the wind direction is referenced as a magnetic direction, rather than true direction. Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.
November 27, 200322 yr I thought it meant Magnetude meaning how strong the wind is i.e. in km/h or mph, could be wrong of course :)
November 27, 200322 yr First time I saw it, I tested it. Set up custom weather, wind at 0 degrees 8 knots. What shows in the text is wind 360/08 mag. ATIS says "wind 360 at 8". I also have always assumed it meant magnitude.
November 27, 200322 yr Ithink it means magnetic but you can test it. Set up the wind at 360 (or 0) degrees, enter slew mode and point your plane to 360 magnetic, then press the space bar. Your plane will point to true north and you can see the difference. BTW -- older versions of FS expressed the surface wind relative to true north and upper levels in relation to magnetic north. I think now it is all magnetic. R-
