April 13, 201115 yr At JFK, an A380 collided with the tail of a CRJ, which had apparently just parked from a flight, tossing it around. Luckily no one was hurt! I wouldn't want to have been on that CRJ though!!http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/04/12/dnt.plane.clipped.runway.cnn?hpt=T2Edit: Opps! Didn't realize there was already a thread on this, sorry! Mods feel free to delete!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
April 13, 201115 yr Or, we could discuss the actual incident here. The other thread is so full of personal attacks that I thought I was reading a sports thread. Are the taxiways marked any differently now that 380s are flying into JFK? Did the ground marshalls get any specific training regarding the need for wider safety zones around taxiways to accomodate the wingspan differences?I'm guessing they will fault the ground guys for holding the Comair flight too close to the taxiway, and the Air France crew for not being aware of their wingspan and how far it extended beyond the taxiway.

Current airports just aren't designed to handle aircraft with this wide of a wingspan. As such airport operations has to adjust their operating procedures just to accommodate a single type aircraft. April 16, 201115 yr Three things have to be considered for operating a A380 at those airports like KFJ: Wider manoeuver zone, slower speed when near the terminal gates and other aircrafts and better training for ground crew and pilots in matter of about how a A380 handles and has to be handled at those airports not designed for such wide and large a/cs This could have been avoided!
