Why is that CaptainSim,of all Flight Simulator developers, always manages to make things very difficult for its customers who have invested in their products? As posted elsewhere here, I have just had to format my hard drive, and after re-installing Win7 x64, re-installed FSX Gold with Acceleration, and then re-installed my Add-ons.All 3 PMDG add-ons re-installed without a hitch. Likewise with Level-D Simulations. But come to the CaptainSim re-install,even after an online activation, which the other developers do not repeatedly ask for, and I see no point in specially if the product has been purchased, inevitably there are issues which one has to hunt down via their self-help KBs,and as suspected more often than not, the answer is never found, thus necessitating a Support Ticket to be raised. The issues I had was that despite the aircraft showing up in FSX, the landing gear would not display. Followed the KB instructions, deleted the relevant Registry entry, again re-installed, only to have 'Failed to startup flight model' error when clicking on any particular repaint, i.e. Pan-Am,Qantas,etcHas anyone else using CaptainSim products come across this hassle?

There's an unofficial Captain Sim Support Forum here on AVSIM. You might want to check it out and see if there's an answer to your problem. I have not run across this issue but then, I just reinstalled FSX because I have a new computer, and reinstalled the CS757 w/o a problem. The 'Failed to startup flight model' error is usually caused by a bad installation of the product. Check the aircraft folder and make sure there's a Model folder with files inside with .mdl extensions. You might have too much security for your computer system and you should disable UAC and any anti-virus programs when installing software. I recommend you restart the installation program for the CS product then select Repair after you have disabled UAC and any anti-virus program. Hopefully that will fix your problem.Best regards,Jim

Thanks Jim and Jay.I already have UAC disabled as per Nick's tweaks, so it was not that and A/V was temporarily disabled too.Additionally, when I did re-install after the OS re-install, everything went smoothly till I came to trying out a test flight lining up on a runway which is when I noticed I had no landing gear even though I could hear the engines running. So, as per CaptainSim's KB, uninstalled, cleaned out the Registry entry reference, then re-installed again which is when I got that error message. I was not going to go through all that palaver again because the CaptainSim online activation keeps a counter of the number of times an install has been activated.
