Need some advice/recommendation for a new CPU

Featured Replies

Hello erveryone! For the upcoming releases of PMDG i'm looking forward to upgrade my CPU.At the moment i'm running on an i7 920@ 2,67 Mhz.Is there a way to just switch to a faster CPU without changing things like Motherboard and stuff? (Have to save money ;))Or maybe overclocking is the way? What would be the cheapest way to get most advantage to my current system?I'm no big Hardware-Guru so maybe one of you guys could give an recommendation. Thanks so far!Thomas RankSystem:Packard Bell IPower G5630Vista 64Bit8 GB RAMNvidia Geforce GTX 470

There's no need to put more expensive i7 CPU in that motherboard and the performance gain would be hardly noticeable, overclocking is the way, your CPU should be able to reach 4GHz easily, just remember about proper cooling. And regarding new 2500/2600k CPUs everything was already told on this forum, they are great because they overclock great, but they require new motherboard, and if you intend to use any new CPU at it's stock clock with FSX you will be disappointed.Regards,smile.gif

I agree you should try and overclock the i7 first. At stock 2.67GHz FSX is unplayable. At 3.8GHz it is fantastic. .

I don't think your BIOS will allow any kind of overclock. That's an OEM prebuilt computer
