iPhone/iPad and PMDG

Featured Replies

Hello guys Some may wonder the post title, why ipad / iphone and why PMDG, and not generalize to other brands. But I explain: 1. ipad / iphone because for us, here in the south of the equator, it may be easier to acquire, taking into account other equipment "touch"; 2. PMDG only because to me, no other aircraft that are equivalent. So if it works in the PMDG addons for me is good. But we go to the question: Some of you have used iphone / ipad at some addon for FSX or which use or operate any aircraft in the PMDG? I've been looking this weekend to appstore, and saw that there are some programs (mostly for flight plans) that would be able to be used together with FSX. But my question is how far are good, or work perfectly. If anyone can give me a help about it, I really appreciate it.

Best regards

For an app to control parts of a PMDG plane (such as the FMC) the app would have to have been developed by or with PMDG. Sort of an exception to this is an app called Air Display which acts like an extra touch screen monitor where you drag the 2D FMC panel onto it and then press the buttons. Do a search on Air Display here in the forums and you will find some discussion on this. There is another app called iGMap which will follow your plane's path over top different maps.As you have found, there are a few apps that display charts/approach plates etc and the best bet to seeing how well they work is to take a look at the ratings on the App Store

Christiano, This is how I use my Ipad for flight sim. I download my charts from Flightaware (US) or Eurocontrol (Europe). I save them in a file to my computer and then upload them to a site called Box.com. Box.com has an app for the Ipad so I use this to see my charts. I use FS Build for flight planning. I generate a flightplan and save the navlog in a text form which I also upload to Box.com. Saves paper and ink. I also us TopCat for weight and balance. I generate a load sheet for my flight along with take-off and landing analysis logs which are saved and uploaded. I also have IGMap which is a moving map app. I also have a couple of aviation weather apps which act like a digital atis. So you see I'm able to make use of my Ipad on a number of different levels for flight sim.
