Is it possible to alias aircraft between Simobjects folders?

Featured Replies

Hello,Can I put a link of some sort in one simbjects folder to another simobjects folder?I am trying to use Aircraft Analyzer for FS9 in FSX. I know it will not function perfectly but I just need its ability to sort ai aircraft by several parameters. It requires a FS9 directory, FS9.cfg, Scenery/world/scenery and the FS9 aircraft folder. It will read the aircraft.cfgs in the aircraft folder to populate the the aircraft lists.I want to put a link in the FS9 aircraft folder to my various FSX simobjects folders so it will read my AI aircraft in FSX. Is there a way to do this? I think there is but I can't seem to get my head around it.So in short, I want a link in the FS9 aircraft folder to point to the following simobjects folders:SimObjects\UT2 AircraftSimObjects\wofaicargoSimObjects\wofaiother

Now that I am thinking about this, I believe it is more of an FS9 question. It is basically the same concept of storing your ai aircraft in a folder other than the FS9 "Aircraft" folder. You can do it in FSX but I don't think you can do it in FS9. I think I will have to copy all of the aircraft in the simobjects\UT2 aircarft folder over to the dummy FS9 aircraft folder. Is there a way to only copy a portion of a folder? I only really need the aircraft.cfgs and the folder name.

You could move your fs9 aircraft folders to a temp location, and then create a junction (soft link) between fs9\aircraft and fsx\simobjects\UT aircraft, but if you wanted to merge the 3 folders you have on fsx into fs9\aircraft that wouldn't work. scott s..

Actually, I will only need the UT2 folder so I won't need to combine the three.I think the soft link is what I am looking for but I don't know how to do it. Could you please explain what I need to do? I gave Googled it but I have no clue what they are telling me to do. Most link are just trying to sell me software.I am trying to link the dummy FS9 Aircraft folder to my current Simobjects\UT2 Aircraft folder. Since ACA doesn't work with FSX, I need to create a dummy FS9 directory for iot to be able to read my ai aircraft.Dummy FS9 directory - D:\FS9\AircraftUT2 Aircarft - D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\UT2 AircraftThanks.

Try installing junction link magic:http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htmensure your dummy fs9 aircraft folder is empty. run the junction link magic, create a junction using the dummy fs9 aircraft as the host and the UT2 aircraft folder as the target. ACA2005 should see all your UT2 aircraft folders. When done you can use junction link magic to delete the link. In windows 7 I guess there is also something called symbolic link. I'm not sure how it differs from a junction although apparently it can link folders or individual files. So it is sort of like a shortcut.scott s..

Yes! It worked. Thank you.You have no idea how much I have missed using ACA in FSX. It is absolutely the best ai aircraft management utility ever created. It won't have full functionality but it will be close enough.
