CPU Advise

Hi folks,Just a quick one.Over 3 years ago I purchased one of the first i7 (965 3.20 GHZ) CPU's and must sayit never let me down.Only recently I decided to overclock it and to my surprise FSX got a bit smoother with better frames. With this in mind I am really wondering how much better the new i7 990X will be ?I know it costs a huge amount of money but want to know if any one out there is already running that CPU with FSX ?Cheers, Ricko

There is a wealth of info out there on these forums. What oc did you get on your i7? If you got 4.2 or so, there may be no point in upgrading at this point. If you only can got a max oc of 3.8 or so, then you may want to look at 2600k/2500k as they are cheap and oc to 4.5-5 no probs and will run FSX basically the same as the 990x at a less than a quarter the cost. Have a look at the mobo section on avsim forums and look for sandy bridge posts.I went from a 920 3.8 max oc to the 2600k at 4.6-4.7 and have found pretty hefty gains in perf that justifed the upgrade for me, but I went from a 285 to a 580 at that same time, so I am sure this helped too...

Can someone just pin a thread called "2500k @ 5ghz best CPU 2011" . Don't have text in the thread with and have it locked.

Good idea!! It is kinda obvious in the mobo support section, but I guess ppl get their info all over the place these days...

to buy a i7 990x is waste of money sorry to say,if you have a i7 960 thats is a fine cpu just clocket it to 4,3 and the you have a super cpu.fsx would not use more than 4 cores anyway.save your money.

Yep your right, Costs way to much.I have clocked it up and I think it's pretty close to the best I can get it. (Apart from a slight jerk here and there)Cheers, RickP.S. Simon747, Tamadeez. Will look in to a Sandy Bridge setup. Does it use 1155 socket set MotherBoard only ?Thanks guys

Yup, you need a 1155 b3 series mb to use the 2600k/2500k. Don't waste your money on top of the line mb's for this set-up, mid level boards work fine and achieve similar oc's.

Get Asus P8P67 Pro 1155. This is what I would get right now
