December 7, 200322 yr I mostly fly in Europe, after all it's 'home'. I fly all over the place, but there's one country I tend to avoid: France. It's not that I have anything against the french (one has to keep friendly with the neighbours), it's because there are hardly any interesting addon airports to fly to, be it freeware or payware. There's an abundance of airports available for almost any other European country: Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Great Britain, Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, ... I'm aware of only a few major French airports made for either FS2002 or FS2004 (Lyon, Lille) and a few small airfields. I vaguely remember an announcement for a commercial project doing a number of larger airports, but that was a long time ago and I didn't hear anything about it since. It's not that they don't have any talented designers (what ROTW has done for Fly II is an excellent example). Or do they prefer keeping to themselves?Does anyone know of any projects, freeware or payware, already released or in development? I sure would like to fly a bit more south without having to go all the way to Spain.Paul (from Belgium)
December 7, 200322 yr Paul, you can't miss this: http://www.francevfr.comI know it would better "sell" outside France if the web site was in English too, but nevertheless, if looks like being one of the best out there! look at these screenshots:http://www.francevfr.com/exemples.asp?Scene=I_QBHope this helps!
December 7, 200322 yr Hi Paul,There are numerous sceneries for France but to start with this is THE BEST add-on for the South West of France :http://perso.wanadoo.fr/moustache/fs/mp_vfr.htmThere are many small lovely airfields but also many many VFR landmarks. And it's free !!!
December 7, 200322 yr Paul,Let me agree with Jean Luc. The French have done a spledid job of producing freeware airports and airfields. In addition to Jean Luc's suggestion, take a look at:Yannick Mille has a terrific Paris Orly LFPO and Lyon LFLL at FsFrance: http://fsfrance.free.fr/And more generally, you might look for the daily additions at FranceSim http://www.francesim.com/Here is a wonderful rendition for VFR flight in southwest France:Zeteam's MP_VRF: http://zeteam82.free.fr/Let me really reinforce the suggestion to look at VFR Design's site. The design team that has done a zillion airports in France. Now they are done only for FS2002. But the team are updating for FS2004. This is a treasure of which all flightsimmers should be aware.VFR Design: http://vfrdesign.free.fr/Better if they had an English translation--for us if not for the participants. My college French is hardly adequate. "Telechargement" is "Download" and "Scenes" is "Scenery" (if that helps). Please enjoy this wonderful work.Best,Mike MacKuen --Mike MacKuen
December 8, 200322 yr To quote this teen-pop sensation, "I think I'm in loohooove"! Those photorealistic sceneries are simply AMAZING!-Daniel
December 8, 200322 yr Thanks all for your input. Many of these flightsim sites I wasn't even aware of. There really is much more available for France than I thought. On the other hand, it confirms my impression that the French flightsim world is less internationally oriented than most other communities. Many of these sceneries can only be found on the French sites and are seldom announced on international sites like this one. Probably the French shy away from this because English is the international 'lingua franca' (!).Thanks again, got a lot of downloading to do...Paul
December 9, 200322 yr Hi,There is a lot of good sceneries that cover France. :-)You can download freeware Rh Damien.
December 9, 200322 yr PaulI actually probably have more add-on scenery for the land of fine wine, cheese and croissants than anywhere else. Look at www.faitmain.com for extensive listings.Don't miss Nanucq's amazing freeware meshes from that site, particularly South West France to complement the VFR stuff; and you will find dozens of good French airport sceneries at Avsim if you hunt around a bit, in addition to the things mentioned above. And for real fun, look for the Altiport sceneries for the Alps ... sloping runways, etc. Cool bananas. My link to it is broken but it must be out there somewhere.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. The only reason real pilots avoid France occasionally is because they have to when ATC goes on strike, which seems to happen all too often. But in the sim world it's a wonderful place to fly, even if you can't drink the wine.http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
