May 27, 201115 yr Curious if anyone is using or has opinions. I was looking at the R3 @ $110. I'm sitting next to the thing all day long and prefer something that's as quiet as possible, but still will cool an SB/2600K @ say 4.6, a GTX 580 and a couple of drives. I also see they have an "arc" model but it doesn't appear to be on sale yet. The arc has more cooling options, but I suppose more mesh = more noise and it also has an FP USB 3.0 where the R3 only has USB 2.0. I'm probably looking at a Corsair H70 for CPU cooling so it has to accommodate that as well.scott s..
May 27, 201115 yr The Coolermaster HAF932 I use for my primary sim PC is the quietest case I've ever had. It comes with three ginormous low-speed 230mm fans (front, side, and top), plus a 140mm exhaust fan in the back. It's deadly, sneak-up-on-you quiet. May 28, 201115 yr Author Thanks. I see CM did a minor refresh on the HAF932. I wasn't really looking at full tower cases but I guess I don't really have a reason not to use one. scott s..
May 29, 201115 yr I own Fractal Design R3 (black) case over 2-3 months. I'm glad of my choice, case is well designed and quiet. I have 6 fans working inside and I may say R3 is far more silent than Chieftec BX-02 which I have in my old computer. If you want to know more feel free to ask.
May 30, 201115 yr Author Thanks. How big a CPU cooler are you running? I guess that would be my main concern. I don't think I would have anything else out of the ordinary. My only pet peeve is if the wiring for the front panel is not well designed and I need a magnifying glass and needle-nose to get the right wire into the right MB connector (and so often the "manual" doesn't make clear the signal name for the wire, or they use a different term than the MB uses).scott s..
May 30, 201115 yr I have Scythe Mugen-2B installed. It is 158 mm high cooler, effective and easy to mount. In my case it is cooling Intel i5 2500 working with standard clock (3,3 GHz) and I have in idle core temperature 30 C (cooler has 450 rpm). In stress temperature rises to 44-48 C (cooler has 700 rpm).My main goal was to build quiet but effective computer. There is no chance to hear CPU cooler working :-)In R3 case you may place CPU coolers high up to 165 mm, it is info from Fractal Design web page and I may confirm that.
