June 3, 201115 yr Hey All,Maybe someone can help here. Is there a way to set the default zoom in spot views? Say you have an AC that is bothering you with the zoom distance, and you don't want to fish eye zoom it?You used to be able to in FS9 with Afcad, but not sure with FSX.Thanks in advance. June 3, 201115 yr Yes Kreg, It is possible. Locate the folder where your FSX.cfg resides. If you don't know where to look for it. It's usually here : C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\(Your Windows User Name)\Microsoft\FSXThis location will be hidden so you'll have to enable 'show hidden files' from the 'Tools' menu. Once located, there should be a 'cameras.cfg' file there too. Make sure to copy it to a safe location as backup just in case something goes wrong. You can now open this file using notepad or a similar application and edit it. I believe 'CameraDefinition.003' is for 'Spot' view. In that section you should find 'InitialZoom' which is ,by default, set to 1.0. Change this value to whatever you need it to be and make sure to save the file. That should do. Cheers,
June 3, 201115 yr Author Karan,Thanks a lot :). Is there a way to do it specifically to each airplane? Thanks in advance! Image Coming... KregE | B757/767 FO
June 3, 201115 yr Anytime buddy. For specific aircrafts, hmm. Now that would be a task. I don't think you can change the zoom values for every aircraft apart from the default zoom that I just told you about. You can definitely change the zoom for the 2D cockpit or Virtual Cockpit as they're all entries in the aircraft cfg file but I don't see an entry for the 'spot' view in any of them which is why the sim always goes to the cameras cfg file located where your fsx cfg is. Willing to be corrected on this but you might have to invest in some 3rd party applications to be able to do that. :Thinking:Cheers,
June 3, 201115 yr I think the OP is more interested in the Spot view camera distance from the aircraft rather than the zoom factor, I'd like to know too how to adjust it because when you use the wideview option in the FSX.cfg it messes up the SPOT view distance in a lot of cases. The PMDG MD11 spot view is far too far away in widescreen mode. The keyboard shortcuts for changing the spot camera distance adjustment are CTRL and + held together at the same time and CTRL and - Cheers, Andy.
June 3, 201115 yr Andy, You can even use 'Shift' and '+'/'-' to fine tune the distance. I don't think 'Spot' view has the option to change the distance. You can always use 'Locked Spot' view and the camera distance for that can be tweaked through the 'cameras.cfg' file. As far as my knowledge goes on this, I don't think you can do anything else but use the shortcuts for the 'Spot' view or in fact, configure the best viewing distance and then save the flight. It should then always bring back the view you previously configured every time you load that particular flight. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us on this. Cheers,
June 3, 201115 yr Yes you can change the Spot view distance quite obviously because its different for most of the aircraft I have, why would the PMDG MD11 be so far out compared to many others if this wasn't editable. Unless MS set different spot view distances bases on the length of the model, but I don't think Microsoft are that smart :) Cheers, Andy.
June 3, 201115 yr I had that problem. I fixed it by pressing control and the + or - keys. Hope this helps. Sam Best Regards, Sam Cordell www.airplane-times.com
June 3, 201115 yr Thanks Sam but I already said that myself three posts up from yours ;) Cheers, Andy.
