HUGS Airspeed vs. PFD

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this has been noticed yet, but when looking back at the 25 knot VFR crosswind landing video, one thing caught my attention. The airspeed tape on the HUGS during the rollout lags a bit. You'll notice it jumps from 81 knots to 71 knots. It's hard to see unless you watch it in HD and fullscreen. It happens at about 2:00 min.Notice that the ground speed indication on the PFD reads correctly as the HUGS reading is always trying to catch up.Is this a bug or is it common in the operation of the HUGS? EDIT: Just noticed the primary speed tape on the PFD acts the same.

It's called the HGS, not the HUGS, it's a registered trade mark:http://www.rockwellcollins.com/~/media/Files/Unsecure/Products/Product%20Brochures/Displays/Head%20up%20displays/HGS%20Data%20Sheet.aspxAl

Two possible explanations.1) FS wind handling on the surface: the ground wind headwind element is reduced by about 10kts at that spotor2) FRAPS recording produced a microstutter, during which the video recording could not keep up with what happened in FS. Even though the GS value is smooth, this kind of microstutter might be more visible in the airspeed indication, since it's probably internally (in FS variables) being polled in higher frequency than the groundspeed. The GS is likely averaged/smoothed out more than airspeed, which probably will suffer from any kind of microstutter that would interfere with the actual display of airspeed at any given moment in timeTero
