June 8, 201114 yr In the documentation it is stated that the J41 will burn about 1200 lbs of fuel in the first hour of flight and the 1000 lbs per hour thereafter. My J41 seems to burn a good deal more than that. I'll burn around 1300 lbs per hour in cruise and more during climb. I'm curious if I'm setting the torque too high. How is power set anyway. Are you looking for a certain speed or a certain fuel flow. I've noticed that if I set the fuel flow to around 500 per side I only get about 250 kts TAS. If I set power to get around 300 kts TAS I burn much more fuel. Any insight would be appreciated... Steve Giblin
June 8, 201114 yr I think this misunderstanding comes from the way the manual was written, to get low fuel flow and high TAS you need to climb higher, you should be able to get around 300KTAS at FL200, Torque58% and FF1100lbs/h, or FL240, Torque53% and FF1000lbs/h.

Same applies with any aircraft, but I didn't think that a cruise at 24000 feet would be all that common in the J41. I guess that maybe for any flight more than say an hour and a half it might make sense to climb that high. Long and slow. I'm not going to worry about it though. I'm not paying for the gas. Thanks for the help. Steve Giblin
