newbie problem with rc4, fsx and Its Your Plane add-on

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,I posted this on the Its Your Plane forum as well, but figured I'd post it here because I'm not actually sure what the trouble is. If people aren't familiar with IYP, this message may not make much sense. If people haven't heard of it, it is an awesom add-on for fsx:http://www.itsyourplane.comI am having trouble with IYP and radar contact. I am blind,and use iyp with the blind pilots mode. Last night, I flew a flight from Las Angeles to San Francisco. Everything whent fine up until the aproach phase. I followed radar contact's instructions and started down from flight level 350. At 25 miles from the airport, I told my co-pilot to execute the aproach checklist. Once I was down to around 3000, atc told me I was cleared for the ils aproach on runway 28 right. I was to fly a certain heading until established on the localizer. I flew for quite a while and actually passed the airport. Michelle never notified me that the localizer was alive. At one point, I did tell michelle to load the ils aproach freq for runway 28 right.I never received any further instructions from atc as far as being cleared to land. The other interesting thing is that atc appeared to bypass my last waypoint. When I was near the airport, the "get flight data" command was reporting that I was getting farther away from my next waypoint. Does anyone have any ideas about this?This flight plan was built using fsbuild 2.3.I am attaching the flight plan in case anyone has any ideas.Thanks!-- flight plan below --<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="AceXML" version="1,0"> <Descr>AceXML Document</Descr> <FlightPlan.FlightPlan> <Title>KLAX to KSFO</Title> <FPType>IFR</FPType> <RouteType>HighAlt</RouteType> <CruisingAlt>35000</CruisingAlt> <DepartureID>KLAX</DepartureID> <DepartureLLA>N33° 56' 33.00" , W118° 24' 29.00",</DepartureLLA> <DestinationID>KSFO</DestinationID> <DestinationLLA>N37° 37' 08.00" , W122° 22' 29.00",</DestinationLLA> <Descr>KLAX, KSFO</Descr> <DeparturePosition>25R</DeparturePosition> <DepartureName>LOS_ANGELES_INTL</DepartureName> <DestinationName>SAN_FRANCISCO_INTL</DestinationName> <AppVersion> <AppVersionMajor>10</AppVersionMajor> <AppVersionBuild>60905</AppVersionBuild> </AppVersion> <ATCWaypoint id="KLAX"> <ATCWaypointType>Airport</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N33° 56' 33.00",W118° 24' 29.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>KLAX</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="VTU"> <ATCWaypointType>VOR</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N34° 06' 54.00",W119° 02' 58.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>VTU</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="RZS"> <ATCWaypointType>VOR</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N34° 30' 34.00",W119° 46' 15.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>RZS</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="PEGRS"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N35° 18' 46.00",W120° 39' 23.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>PEGRS</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="ZONAL"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N35° 28' 08.00",W120° 49' 53.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>ZONAL</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="BSR"> <ATCWaypointType>VOR</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N36° 10' 52.00",W121° 38' 31.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>BSR</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="CARME"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N36° 27' 18.00",W121° 52' 46.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>CARME</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="ANJEE"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N36° 44' 46.00",W121° 57' 53.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>ANJEE</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="SKUNK"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N37° 00' 27.00",W122° 01' 59.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>SKUNK</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="BOLDR"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N37° 10' 15.00",W122° 04' 34.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>BOLDR</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="MENLO"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N37° 27' 49.00",W122° 09' 13.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>MENLO</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="KSFO"> <ATCWaypointType>Airport</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N37° 37' 08.00",W122° 22' 29.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>KSFO</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> </FlightPlan.FlightPlan></SimBase.Document>

Once RC has given you that, you are "on your own" from ATC until you are switched to tower, about 8 or so nm from the airport. It's up to you (with whatever other aids yuo can muster) to get onto the localiser, first, and approach the glideslope from below so that it can engage.
Michelle never notified me that the localizer was alive. At one point, I did tell michelle to load the ils aproach freq for runway 28 right.I never received any further instructions from atc as far as being cleared to land.
Although I use IYP I have never used any of its features like that -- I assume they are part of the additions for the blind? I think you may need to get Robert (IYP author) to advise on this.
The other interesting thing is that atc appeared to bypass my last waypoint.
RC vectors you when within about 40 miles of the airport, so any closer waypoints will usually be ignored.I'd be interested to see what Robert has to say on this. I've not tried any of IYP's more sophisticated facilities. I use it to read me the checklists and get weather, as well as respond to RC via voice instead of buttons or keypresses.RegardsPete

If Michelle is the voice of the RC co-pilot she does not fly approaches. (The RC copilot voices are selectable. I'm not familiar with IYP so apologize if this is not relevant.).

Michelle is the default name for the female copilot in IYP. Mike is the male counterpart.RegardsPete
