July 5, 201114 yr Hi,I wrote a topic one or two days ago asking about a good processor.I'm going for the i7 2600k ( removing my i3 530 ). I just want to be 150% sure that I will get good results with it and the other components. Here are my specs:Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 480Processor: i7 2600kPower supply: LC8850 ATXOS: Windows 7 64 bitRAM: 4.00 GBi'm going to change motherboard...i still don't know with which one though...in any case here is the one I have now: ASUS express gate turbo VThank you... July 5, 201114 yr i5-2500k will be just about as good for $100 cheaper Corey Meeks FS2020 | AMD 7800X3D | ASUS ProArt 4080 Super | ASUS B650E-I Mini ITX | 2x32Gb DDR5-6000 CL32 | DELL 38" U3818DW (3840x1600) | FormD T1 | Thermalright AXP90-47 | Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 1000W
July 5, 201114 yr Author i5-2500k will be just about as good for $100 cheaperthank you for the reply, but in any case with the i5 2500k or with the i7 2600k will i be getting " extraordinary " graphics? ( I might seem stupid but this is my number 1 worry: buy a new processor and not have the expected results..)Also keeping in mind that I don't have a great fan cooler so that i can over-clock it.... ... ... July 6, 201114 yr Author which one exactly Thomas? there's a lot of inexpensive HSF's that perform very wellMy fan is attached to my power supply...so attached to the LC8850 power supply i have my fan....but anyway even without over-clocking what results can i be getting with this new processor? July 6, 201114 yr I went from a Core 2 Duo @3.0 GHz with an 8800 GTX to a 2600K @4.5 Ghz with 2x 570 with an SSD drive for FSX. I am getting 2.5-3x the performance -- maybe even 3.5 in some cases -- with the same settings.Since you are already on an I3 and you are not planning to OC to 4.5Ghz, you will not get this much improvement over your old system. For your upgrade to be worth it, you really need to OC to 4.5GHz as that alone will give you close to a 50% cpu performance. Going from the I3 530 (2 cores) to an I7 2600K (4 cores) should give you another 25-50%, so I would guess you are looking at an improvement 75% - 125% or just around 2x.

July 6, 201114 yr Cooling is not that much of an issue with the 2600K chips. You are likely to run into the voltage limit and not the heat limit of the chip. So any decent air cooling solution will be fine, just make sure your case has good airflow.
