July 9, 201114 yr Many thanks to John Stinstrom, with the aid of Martin Wright, and Lee Swordy for their contribution of "ktcm_js.zip", McChord Air Force Base and especially John's heads up on the following:If you would like to have Air Force Bases all over the world filled with all kinds of modern military aircraft, take a peek at John's recommended site:http://www.militaryaiworks.comClick on the "Packages>List" link and you will bring up 188 choices for download. Do note that many of these individual downloads include an abundance of multiple bases and birds by themselves. I am in the process of downloading all of the USA bases at the moment being that this is my home territory (12 so far, 50 or more to go). Then I will move on to International bases. I probably will EAT THE WHOLE THING.Recommendation: I have found that some of the time the downloads do not want to work for me, whether it is on their end or mine I do not know. I have discovered that if I am persistant that all but one so far has ultimately worked. May be a popup problem specific to my system. Some times just repeatedly trying has worked. Often holding the Control key when I click on the download icon in question works. At other times, trying the control key bit, then trying without it a second time works. Takes a little foreplay, but it will work if you hang in there and keep trying. The only choice that did not work at all was "NAS Lemoore Hornets" where I got an error message telling me the page did not exist.Recommendation: A couple of times my download completed in only a split second, making me suspicious of a corrupt or partial attempt. A second attempt went fine. I would suggest that when your download begins, note the size and be sure upon completion of the download that your download size matches the size of the file. This probably would be a good idea for all downloads, not just from this site. One note on John's KTCM: I wondered why I had no static aircraft and the base was deserted after my initial installation. If you are like me (hopefully not), I often do not read instructions completely or carefully. Such was my mistake here. John clearly states: "This scenery was designed for use with the "AMC West C-17's package"." Once I installed that package, the base is filled, and I do mean filled with C-17's. Surprisingly there is little frame rate impact as well. If a fighter Interceptor squadron is still stationed at KTCM I do wish a few of those would land. Many years ago I was stationed there and worked on F-102A Fire Control Systems for 2 1/2 years (That ought to tell you how long ago it was).I hope this is of interest and is helpful to someone. When I make a discovery such as this, it always makes me wonder what else I have overlooked there have been so many great contributions both freeware and payware. Thanks again so much John.Respectfully:RTH

July 9, 201114 yr GREAT find John. Downloaded MCAS in San Diego. Love the scheduled flyby's. Can even watch MAVRICK take his mororcycle ride. :) Love it.BradMAIW is one of the great resources for FS and they do an amazing job. Just one word of warning. Many of their AFCADS "overlap" other releases as well as the defaults. So not only should you definitely read the warnings about AFCADS that come with each release, you will want to make sure that you are not overwriting a more recent AFCAD with an older one from an earlier release. If you are like me and have been downloading them since they first started, then it's not an issue. But if you are new to their awesome work, just remember to make sure you are not overwriting (or duplicating, as not all the file names are the same) newer AFCADS with older ones. You want to particularly avoid duplicate AFCADS - that can cause all kinds of grief so RTFM! :( One other warning. Some of their releases have an incredible number of AI aircraft and because of scheduling, often all of them are sitting on the hard stand at the same time. (Especially on weekends).. It looks fabulous but can really affect FPS. You may occasionally need to tweak the traffic file to reduce the numbers, especially if you have a nearby major civil airport. (e.g. KLAS McCarran International and KLSV Nellis AFB)Enjoy - and as always, thank you John and Nick and all the other great contributors to MAIW over the years :( CheersIan
July 10, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the reply Ian:Out of curosity, what method or programs do you use for locating duplicates? I have used "scanafd/zip" which is pretty old. I also have "ddf_100.zip" which is a bit newer but have never been comfortable using it as I am not always sure what it is telling me.Thanks:RTH MAIW is one of the great resources for FS and they do an amazing job. July 11, 201114 yr Author For what it is worth, for the facilities located in the USA I have compiled an Excel Worksheet with five columns:A. ICAO facility identifier in alphabetical orderB. MAIW NumbersC. Facility name or TitleD. Location of the FacilityE. Aircraft installed at each Airport or Base.I tried to make an attachment, but as expected an Excel attachment is not acceptable on this forum. If anyone else is also a glutton for punishment and wants a copy, contact me by email at the following address and I will attempt to send it to you by that method: [email protected] may or may not expand on this as it sure does take a lot of time and work. However, humor me a little bit as it sure does make finding locations and aircraft of interest a lot easier.Respectfully:RTH
July 12, 201114 yr Author Time for me to show my ignorance:1. My numbered downloads pertaining to KADW are 2, 27, 60, 842. Downloads 2 and 27 require the MAIW installer.3. With a routine installation, the sequence has a "World of AI Installer-Install AFCAD/Scenery Files" popup window option with a choice to select "yes" or "no" for the installation.4. If I click "no" I see no installation of MAIW KADW.5. If I click "yes" I get an error window which says: "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Could not find the part of the path 'addon scenery\scenery\MAIW_KADW_DEFAULT_CP.bgl".6. If I select "continue", it appears that the installation continues, but I do not see any evidence of it in FS9.7. The installer also includes "Extract files for manual installation" and "Decompile Flightplan" checkmark options which I then selected.8. Manually copied all of the "addon scenery, aircraft, Effects, Military AI Works", and "Scenery" files into their proper folders.9. Andrews now looks great with as near as I can tell all aircraft present and plenty of activity. I did not see the 747 USA but may not have picked the right time of day or just simply missed it, but all other aircraft seem to be on the apron at one hour or another. Maybe it is gone today.10. One remaining question. The only other files that were downloaded are all ".txt" files with one exception. There is a "WOAI.cfg" file. Near as I can tell everything with the exception of the USA 747 is present and everything works without me doing anything with this file. For my manual installation of files, where should I put this file?11. MAIW numbers 60 and 84 have direct automatic installers and installed with no problem. Please peek at my scenario and let me know if I need to do anything with the "WOAI.cfg" file and if so, where I need to copy it.Thanks:RTHEdit: I am amazed at the lack of framerate impact with so much added.
July 12, 201114 yr Author Garfield on the MAIW forum informs me that the cfg file in question is only used during installation.Happy flying:RTH
July 12, 201114 yr RTH, thanks for the kind words and yes John does excellent work. Glad you are enjoying the packages. We have never had anyone tell us that they have had issues downloading the packs so I'm guessing your computer's security is causing your download headaches. Military AI traffic and scenery packages for the Flight Simulator community.
July 12, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the reply Mike:No problem downloading the packs. Well, maybe not quite right, A few multiple tries and it kicked in. I downloaded all of the USA contributions plus a few others. My problem was installing it. However, a manual install went just fine and near as I can tell everything is working swimingly.I also had all protection disabled during the installation (Eset NOD32).Peter was also kind enough to answer my cfg. file question on the MAIW forum.Again thanks a bunch for your prompt reply and the fine contribution to flightsimRTH RTH, thanks for the kind words and yes John does excellent work.
