  1. Just to clarify something for use in FS9, you can only use one ATC parking code for both the Aircraft.cfg entry and AFD parking spot entry. You can put as many entries in those values as you want but it's only going to reference the first one in each. In FS9, making the line "atc_parking_code=112F,F16" or changing the spot's code to "112F,F16" won't change anything. If the AI doesn't see "112F" in a parking spot, it will start looking for the next suitable spot. It will not start looking for a spot coded "F16".in this scenario. That's why we only ever use one unique code for the AI in our packs. I wish we could use multiple codes, it would solve many problems when the AI visit other bases. When the AI do visit other bases, they don't find their unique code, "112F" in this case. Since they have the line "atc_parking_type=MIL_COMBAT" in their .CFG file, they will then look for an uncoded MIL_COMBAT spot of a large enough radius to park in. In all of our AFD files, we leave extra, uncoded spots listed as MIL_COMBAT or MIL_CARGO as appropriate to provide a place to park transient fighters and transports in. As far as the numbers of AI included in the packs, we generally try to include every serial number in each pack. This isn't necessarily the most realistic situation as very few units ever have 100% of their aircraft available for missions. So the options are to leave some out in which case people complain that the packs are incomplete OR to put them all in and let each user decide what they want to do with them. BTW, love the scenery! Looks great, especially with the seasonal ground photo textures.
  2. RTH, thanks for the kind words and yes John does excellent work. Glad you are enjoying the packages. We have never had anyone tell us that they have had issues downloading the packs so I'm guessing your computer's security is causing your download headaches.
  3. A better way of saying what I was trying to say is:If you want to have military style AI traffic in one of the two simulator platforms, FS9 is the better choice since 99% of all military AI traffic related files are designed solely for use in FS9. They can be used in FSX but the results are not as good and there are some issues related to using native FS9 models in the FSX platform. /Group hug.
  4. Because FSX is inferior to FS9 for AI purposes.....
  5. As the guy who made that bonus scenery, I'll second that.... :(
  6. Yes this is a limitation of the FS9 AI engine. It will not allow ai to operate correctly to those fields that are below sea level.
  7. And now that it's out, the complete flood of support requests has crashed their forums. Poor guys, not like they don't already have enough on their hands.Don't equate lots of requests for support for a bad product. I'm sure if the FSX version is anything like the FS9 version, due to its complexity, there are going to be teething issues. Jon and company however are top notch when it comes to support.
  8. Still the 8th where I live....
  9. Jon I'm sorry to hear that the FS9 version was not financially successful. I would have gladly paid more for it than what it costs. Especially when other payware companies making military models charge 25%-50% more for their models which don't even come close to the VRS model. I hope you guys can get something back with the release of the FSX version. For $45 U.S. this model has no rival, military or civilian.Even though I don't run FSX, I can't wait to see the screenshots and videos that will be coming out in the near future.
  10. Nope doesn't work for scenery in FSDS 3 or higher. It is my understanding that LODs for scenery were possible with earlier versions of FSDS, but for some reason, they did not include this functionality in the new version. It is very frustrating not to be able to use them for scenery because they do work for regular aircraft and AI models.
  11. Ok, thanks that's what I thought. I was wondering why one of our packages was being openly shared on that site along with lots of payware. Lovely world we live in.
  12. Is this a legit site? Anyone know?LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR
  13. That's correct, I have over 4,500 hours in the real one, and it was a nice aircraft to fly. The Feelthere sim looks like it really does it justice. The radar in the real version suffers from having too small of a dish. The power output could be higher as well which would give you better returns and therefore a better overall radar picture. Of all the aircraft equipped with radar that I've ever flown, I trusted the radar on the ERJ the least if that tells you anything. That's why I said earlier if they could simulate the "crappiness" of the real radar, I would truly be blown away! It was sarcasm.
  14. Did they model the real world crappiness of the radar? If so THAT would be a home run IMO......The only thing the real one was good for was getting you close enough to be struck by lightning. And yes I speak from experience.
  15. All of the above recommendations are top notch. I'll toot our own horn here for a segment of the hobby that is sorely ignored. You can get all of our military AI packages free directly from our site. Many of our packages have full custom scenery included in addition to the AI.www.militaryaiworks.comWe have released nearly 150 AI packages so far. :(
  16. You should limit your vis to no more than 40 miles (30 miles is even better). Anything more than that, and you are wasting your CPU's resources. You can't distinguish details much beyond 30 miles anyway, so what's the point of making your computer render that stuff so far away? Here is the link again (sorry they redid their forums recently):http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1166959332There's enough reading in there to keep you busy for a week.
  17. Bill I had a similar problem when I first installed GEP, blurry textures, poor fps and lots of stuttering in my case. This little tweak fixed everything, give it a shot:Backup your current working FS9.CFG first!!!(found at C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9)Once you've backed your current FS9.CFG file up, locate the following lines of code and replace them with the lines below.TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=8.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=8.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1242456That's it, save the FS9.CFG file and fire up your version of FS9 and hopefully you will be able to see a huge difference in the quality of your ground textures. Here are the direct links to where I ran across this if you'd like to explore more tips and tricks:Thread with this tweak:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1162937650Thread with many great tips and tricks for getting the most out of your setup;http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1166959332
  18. Tough call these days. Two new freeware addons out just this week make me drool. One is an unbelievable freeware aircraft carrier for FSX, the other is yet another unbelievable freeware scenery for Sacramento airport in California for FS9. Both are fantastic looking from just the screenshots I've seen so far.Makes it hard to decide what to do since great addons are still being developed for both sims.
  19. Well said David, well said. Some people will never "get it". Of that I am truly convinced.
  20. We include this with EVERY single package we release and it's on our site as well. Military AI Works Copyright PolicyEvery element contained within a MAIW package is included with the express permission of the author. This permission can be rescinded at any time by an author, at which time their copyrighted materials will not be used for future packages. A package, and all of its contents, that has been released into the public domain, is the copyright of Military AI Works. Military AI Works packages may not be re-released by any third party without the express permission of Military AI Works..Militray AI Works will never sell any package containing copyrighted materials without the express written permission of each individual author. Any breach of this contract voids Military AI Works copyright to said package. Just because something is free, doesn't mean that a user is free to do with it as they please. It's a deal between the users and the creators. The creators agree to share their work as long as the users agree to abide by the creator's policy. Plain and simple. If you can't abide by our policy, don't use our packages. That's all we ask.
  21. Would you drive a car if you knew it was stolen??? Same principle here.
  22. Andrew, you are correct. Yes I am looking for the actual textures that are called by the land class files themselves. I really thought this would be easier to find out. Is everyone either using Payware upgrades or sticking with the default textures?I know that at some point in the past, I had a nice set of freeware textures that I had installed in place of the default land class textures. I just can't remember what they were. :(
  23. I would argue that it's not about morals. We all know the moral standards in our world have gone down the tubes. It's about respect, plain and simple. Or in this case, the complete lack of respect for other people's wishes and their work. If I make a widget for myself and someone comes along and says, "hey, that's really cool, can you make one for me", and I say "sure, as long as you don't share it with others" and you say "great, thanks". And then I come to find out that you actually did share it with others against my wishes, why then would I ever share anything with you ever again?Chances are, once I got burned, I wouldn't share it with said person ever again. But there's no way to ever do this with freeware in a world where there are hundreds of thousands of FS users. So what's a freeware developer to do? Punish the entire community because of the actions of a few, or keep on producing and sharing in the hopes that the vast majority will honor and respect their wishesThankfully for all of us, the latter of those two arguments has prevailed. But eventually some of the best freeware developers grow tired of being shown a complete lack of respect for their wishes (i.e. their copyright policy) and decide to either quit developing all together or to go the payware route. So for those of you legitimizing the actions of sites like Wingz of Silence or the individuals who produce these products like SKAI or Morten's AI, you are slapping myself and every other freeware developer smack in the face and essentially saying, I don't respect you or your wishes via your copyright policy. Instead you encourage the behavior of those few individuals who openly disrespect the very developers whose work they are compiling. In essence you help to drive the best freeware developers from the very hobby that they enjoy so much, then you complain when developers like Mike Stone quit the FS world in disgust over these very same issues. The problem is that no one is going to be able to enforce any copyright policy when it comes to freeware. That's why it comes down to respect. If you go out and openly copy my work and redistribute it against my wishes, there's nothing I can really do other than add your user name, screen name, handle, whatever, to my "Wall of Shame". So it comes down to individual choice. What kind of man are you? Are you one to stab a guy in the back or are you going to take the high road and respect the wishes of a developer and try to set a good example for your fellow enthusiasts. But as evidenced by the replies already submitted here, there are a few good men and a whole bunch of back stabbers. Interestingly enough, that's in parallel with the rest of life, so for me personally, I won't lose any sleep over it. But it is truly disappointing.
  24. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking for freeware addons however. Any suggestions for free textures that other users might have installed?
  25. Try moving your FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder up to the highest spot in your scenery library. That's assuming that you place all of your AF2 files in that one folder. If you have them in that folder, and that folder sits on top of all the others in your scenery directory, then that should fix your problems.
