June 16, 200916 yr So, I bought Vista 64 recently (mainly to prevent that problem with out of mem errors with add-on planes landing in add-on sceneries) and did a fresh install of my OS. Thus, I will need to do a fresh install of FS which got me thinking...I know talking about the switching to FSX is like beating a dead horse..but I feel it is something that has to be re-visited since things are constantly changing. For me, it has been AES becoming FSX compatible and ACES closing. So, Fs9'rs, what's your opinion? Now that ACES is closed, and there is no new FS version on the horizon, investing in FSX add-ons seems pretty safe. Also, since I last visited this topic, I would say that the FSX add-on market is now "mature". AES was the last hold out for me, which now, is mute. But, is there really going to be that much of a noticeable difference? I have some pretty good and recent hardware so I should be able to run FSX but with the FS9 sliders cranked, would it really be any better? In addition, I will lose some of my add-ons and sceneries like FlyTampa KSEA and KSFO. And losing FS Navigator will almost bring me to tears. But progress is progress. Will you switch soon? Ever switch? Should I switch? Anyways, I'd like to hear the opinion of the masses :) Jason C CYYJ Prepar3D v5.0 | i9-10900K 5.0 GHz (OC) | Thermaltake Water 3.0 360mm Rad | MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X 8GB | G.Skill 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (OC) | GIGABYTE Z490 Aorus Ultra | XPG GAMMIX S11 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD | Corsair RM850i 850W PS | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | Dell 27 inch G-Sync 144Hz Gaming Monitor
June 16, 200916 yr Im using FS9 now and made the switch from FSX to FS9 (and no, there are no typos in that statement lol). I did it mostly because of proformance issues I had, and still have, with an old laptop. Fs9 runs 2x as better then FSX ever did. FSX nerver made sese to me because somehting that is newer and more recent should run better right? I guess not. lol Also, most of the addons I downloaded were for FS9, but the FSX market has grown a bit, so thats not really a problem for you now. Not sure if i'll make the switch soon, as I've spent A good amount of money on FS2004. Alos, maybe if prices on hardware came down a bit. Danny

Ever switch? Should I switch? Anyways, I'd like to hear the opinion of the masses :)I have both FS9 and FSX. I went for FSX when I finally upgraded to a new PC--a quad core system. For me FSX and FS9 serve two distinct purposes. FS9 is my sim of choice when I want to fly in the flight levels with a ton of traffic in the sky. With WOAI installed and all settings at their max I don't have a problem getting fps to stay at their locked setting of 30. It is breathtaking to come into ORD at night, and see the landing lights of jets on approach lined up like pearls on a string. FSX is my sim of choice for VFR flight, and if it weren't for Tileproxy, I probably would not be running it. Tileproxy provides seamless photoreal coverage for me, even when I am cruising in Lionheart's Epic at 300 kts. With most settings at their best, I achieve my 30 fps lock most of the time, but it can fall off by about thirty percent around some of the bigger cities. I hardly care, Tileproxy has brought a level of VFR realism beyond any I have ever seen or could have imagined even a few years ago. Also, FSX has become my sim of choice for add-on aircraft. The new FSX Duke from RealAir is a case in point--it is just outstanding. There's also Aerosoft's Venice--just beautiful....My chief complaint these days is sometimes I don't enjoy either sim, because I cannot decide which one I am in the mood to fly.... :)-John
June 16, 200916 yr I thought that with the new i7 build in my sig I could move to FSX permanently. How wrong I was. I still find myself on FS9 100%. FSX does run much better and is playable in dense areas but still has not enough going for heavy payware jet simmers at major airports. Out in the hills, for VFR flying it is stunning. It stands alone as the sim of choice. But in the cities when in the jets - no way. FS9 is still the heavy jet sim.I think this split will always be there. June 16, 200916 yr Tough call these days. Two new freeware addons out just this week make me drool. One is an unbelievable freeware aircraft carrier for FSX, the other is yet another unbelievable freeware scenery for Sacramento airport in California for FS9. Both are fantastic looking from just the screenshots I've seen so far.Makes it hard to decide what to do since great addons are still being developed for both sims. June 16, 200916 yr Hi,Well I just made the move to FSX after upgrading to an I7 975 CPU overclocked to 4.14 GHz. It worked out so well that I removed FS9 from my system and 100% of my flight time is spent in the Level-d 767. With the new CPU's on the market, FSX is no longer for the low and slow type aircraft. I enjoy both thoroughly and play both. FS9 is my portable flight sim as it runs great on my laptop. FSX is my desktop simmer. My current problem is that I do not have my desktop overseas with me and I keep buying FS9 Add-Ons, haha. A habit I should stop till I get my desktop over here with me. :( Derek RogersPC Specs: Intel i7-4790K 4.6GHz : 16GB RAM : GTX 970 4GB

Tileproxy provides seamless photoreal coverage for me, -JohnI remember when this "tileproxy" first came out... it was stunning ! But it seemed TOO complicated for me !! Do you still have to "make" it all yourself, or is there an easier way to do it, like maybe an auto installer or something like that? I only have FS2004 but with a new 4.01 MZh CPU computer, and a second big internal harddrive, may be it's time to give FSX a try. Please give me some info on installing the "tileproxy". Thanks jerrycwo4
