  1. As far as CPUs go, I would refer to this guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html I think Overclocking is definitely worth it - FSX is CPU bound, the faster it is, the less stutters, etc. you will see!!!
  2. You're sitting on a pot of gold! Those 7990 are sold out everywhere due to crypto-currency mining. You can probably sell it for 3x what you bought it for. The 780ti performs better than the Titan, definitely go for the Ti. All the manufacturers you list are great. Maybe choose based on price/warranty? Jason
  3. The newer cards really only help with multi-monitor setups. I get 1GB of video card memory usage and my card peeks at about 70% GPU usage with a GTX 780. I'm waiting a few years before moving to P3D until all the add-ons are ported over.
  4. Thanks to the generosity of hodge001, I have the patch. I am going to host it in dropbox in case anyone else needs it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2523961/MCO-UPDATE1.2.zip Looks like their website has been down for several weeks, I wonder what the issue is?!?
  5. I just ordered this on simMarket as they had it on special for 30% off. They have a link in their forum for the patch but it is hosted on a site full of ads and malware and you have to create an account. Can someone share the patch in dropbox or some such??? :Praying: They really need to get their website issue sorted out.
  6. Glad you asked this, I am annoyed by it too! It stinks flying around Vancouver/Victoria Canada with snow on the ground all winter when it rarely snows here. Such a bummer. :(
  7. It's highly unlikely we'll see much faster CPUs. Increasing clock speed exponentially increases the heat they generate. We've been able to increase clock speed so far because they keep going to a smaller manufacturing process (making the transistors smaller and therefore, producing less heat) and efficiency increases in the CPU architecture. But we've almost reached the limit of that. Adding more CPU cores, w/o increasing clock speed actually generates less heat. I think we'll see 6 core or 8 core processors go mainstream long before any increase in clock speed.

Well, this is terrible news. Is there anything legally we can do to try to get our pre-order money back? And does this make Orxy a candidate for the Avsim Wall of Shame? **UPDATE**: I emailed Florian Fermin at Oryxsim directly and he promptly refunded my pre-order money for CYYZ. Anybody who pre-ordered this can email him at [email protected] and ask for a refund. It would have been nice if they made some formal announcement about the cancellation of the project and refunded pre-order money automatically. In any case, happy I got my money back and I'm looking forward to what FlyTampa does.

I would wait on buying it. First off, it is too expensive, in my books. Secondly, I am going to wait to see how Prepar3D works out. If it truly is going to be the successor to FSX (and the version 2 is looking very promising), then I'm staying away from PMDG.
  10. I use the one listed on this site: http://freechecklists.net/simchecklists.asp The one for the Bonanza says it's for FS2002 but works well with the Carenado. Cheers, Jason
  11. My install takes up 5.7GB
  12. It's for this reason that unless the developers have corporate backing, I can't see a new simulator ever being successful. Without $$, for food and such, I would assume the developers would be doing it on their spare time which would take decades to develop a simulator. Which is a problem - you'd constantly have to change the technology you are using due to obsolescence.
  13. Mine just changed to Completed as well. No change though, still getting 'Cannot Connect to Server' or 'Order Not Found' messages.
  14. Go here:http://www.fszone.or...ilot-checkride/Read the last message in the thread. After reading it, I passed it, first try! The hardest thing to get past is the steep turn. To maintain altitude and speed so as not to fail it, I find that I have to apply almost full thrust as I go into the turn.
  15. I really miss flying the PSS Dash 8. I held on to FS9 till just two years ago so I could fly it. It did have its issues, but I just love the Dash 8 (and they are everywhere in the real world where I live). Really looking forward to Magestic finishing their Q400.I've done some flights in the ERJ v.2 and am enjoying that. I still miss a good turboprop though. I'd get the JS41 but no real world airlines around here fly it and I just really want a nice Dash 8 again.
  16. Ya, I am actually not sure of the improvement. I run CoreTemp with FS and have monitored each core's use and only a very few times do they reach 100%. FSX goes below 30 fps sometimes even with core usage not reaching 100% so that must be a limitation of FSX. I think where it might come in handy is when running several things simultaneously: REX, FSC, and FSX.
  17. It depends on how much you install/remove programs or save/delete files on your system. If you don't do that much, then you won't have to defrag much. Which is probably the situation in your case.I doubt any of these 3rd party de-fraggers really give you that much of a performance boost over the WinXP/Vista default de-fragger. There isn't a terrible amount of rocket science to it. They just grab clusters of a program and make sure they are physically located beside each other on the disk. It may save a second or two if the program is located on the outer edge of the platter but as I understand it, both the default WinXP and Vista de-fraggers do the 'frequently used program' re-location as well.Jason
  18. So, I bought Vista 64 recently (mainly to prevent that problem with out of mem errors with add-on planes landing in add-on sceneries) and did a fresh install of my OS. Thus, I will need to do a fresh install of FS which got me thinking...I know talking about the switching to FSX is like beating a dead horse..but I feel it is something that has to be re-visited since things are constantly changing. For me, it has been AES becoming FSX compatible and ACES closing. So, Fs9'rs, what's your opinion? Now that ACES is closed, and there is no new FS version on the horizon, investing in FSX add-ons seems pretty safe. Also, since I last visited this topic, I would say that the FSX add-on market is now "mature". AES was the last hold out for me, which now, is mute. But, is there really going to be that much of a noticeable difference? I have some pretty good and recent hardware so I should be able to run FSX but with the FS9 sliders cranked, would it really be any better? In addition, I will lose some of my add-ons and sceneries like FlyTampa KSEA and KSFO. And losing FS Navigator will almost bring me to tears. But progress is progress. Will you switch soon? Ever switch? Should I switch? Anyways, I'd like to hear the opinion of the masses :)
  19. I recently purchased KATL from ImagineSim and found that it is raised up compared to the terrain around it. I have FSGenesis installed. Here is a pic of the problem:http://members.shaw.ca/jtc12/KATLraisedterrainproblem.jpgI emailed ImagineSim and they said FSGenesis is wrong. Wondering if anybody else has the same problem and what would be the best way to fix this. Thanks, Jason
  20. I am looking at this issue myself. I am not convinced quads are fully utilized so want to stick with dual cores. The only reason I think to pay the premium on the 8500 is that it looks like it can be overclocked to 4GHz from some accounts.Jason
