Head up re new Graphics card!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone thinking of getting a new Graphics card.

I recently purchased a gtx770 4gb and to be honest it has made no difference in the running of FSX, yes the AA can be applied higher!

I have an over clocked I7 [email protected] it does maintain 30 FPS but using payware aircraft does take a hit in a big airport and weather...

The one thing that is most annoying is the BP tweak at 0 I get artifacts and flashing and set with RT none but then taxiing is rubbish lots of stuttering!

I can live without autogen but you must have it on at aerosoft Madeira or the runways disappear.

Anyway I came from a gtx 570 and can say that there really is not a great difference.

trust this helps

Cheers

That 770 will really help in P3D v2 though.

If you are thinking of heading that way.......

Which is why I still use my GTX 260, 1.7Mb card.  Throwing more money into new hardware for me will likely result in very little, if any, gains in performance.

I agree on the move to P3D v2, someday I will likely do that once I make a wholesale upgrade of my hardware.

Going to Prepar3d v.2 on your existing hardware should result in a noticeable improvement on your current set-up as it will utilise your hardware far more effectively than FSX ever will. I am running an i5 2500k with an nvidia 660ti GTX, 8gb ram on Windows 7 64bit. Very smooth performance averaging 50fps but still smooth down to about 15fps. FSX reached a plateau some time ago and is unlikely to improve much regardless of how much money you throw at it whereas Prepar3d will continue to be developed well into the future. Be brave - make the switch! You won't regret it.

I had nice gains going from a GTX 580 to the 770, both in FSX and P3D v2. Very well worth it imo.

The newer cards really only help with multi-monitor setups. I get 1GB of video card memory usage and my card peeks at about 70% GPU usage with a GTX 780. I'm waiting a few years before moving to P3D until all the add-ons are ported over.

Get the dx10 scenery fixer and try dx10. You will see a noticeable difference in performance. I recently upgraded from a ati 7770 to a gtx 780 and with dx10 fsx runs like a dream come true. It's a whole new sim for me. It's simply beautiful and combine with asn and rex4,it can't be beat

I use that card in P3D v2 and it really makes a difference over my previous 660ti.

Mark I assume you checked your cfg for duplicate [Device...] entries and deleted your cached shader folder in App Data after installing the new card?

Hi Everyone,

thanks for your replies ideas, I think either DX10 or P3 will be the route for me. No duplicate entries in the CFG thanks for the tip though!

The odd thing I have found with this card though is I run through NI and set the 1/2 frame rate setting like most of us and this causes black flashes and spikes with BP at 0.

If I remove the 1.2 frame NI setting and try a frame rate limit of 30 instead the flashing spikes stop? however Vsynch is badly broken and I get bad tearing....well roll on DX10 or P3

All the best

No issues like that for me. GTX 580 to GTX 770 duel bios 4GB. Definite improvement.

If you're getting artefacts with BP=0, then too much data is being fed to the card. Cut back a notch on your Autogen. OR, cut back a fraction on your AA. Just a slight reduction in data been fed to the card will do it.
